Laker players who should have their jerseys retired who are

Post#1 » by KaliCin » Fri Mar 16, 2012 5:59 pm

The Los Angeles Lakers have a rule that they retire Jerseys only of players who will make it to the hall of fame. So who are some present and past players that the Lakers should think about retiring their jersey. This is just for discussion not say the Lakers should do it.

Here are mine
• Derrick Fisher
• Robert Horry
• Michael Cooper
• Byron Scott

I like it how it is now. I don't really like teams that "overly" retire numbers. I like others idea of having some banner with their names on it in the rafters though.

As for the list, I agree with Derek, Coop and Scott...Horry not so much. As big as he was for the Lakers at times I don't really think of him as being as much of a "career Laker" as I do the other three. Fish and Scott each played a few seasons outside of LA but you still think of them as having spent the vast majority of their careers in LA whereas Horry actually spent more time playing for other teams than he did the Lakers.

I think of that list as finalist to be considered not to say they all deserve it

I wish we can retire Phil Jackson even though he isn't a player.

The less, the better.

The Celtics seem to retire everybody, including the guys who mopped up the parquet floor during breaks.

It would be nice of the Lakers to do that but they never have changed their policy on retiring numbers the player has to be in the Hall Fame or guaranteed to be headed there. We already have Shaq's number being put up next year and Jamal Wilkes is up for the Hall of Fame again this year and eventually Kobe.

This. We should give them plaques or murals or something cool though. We need a way to honor players like that.

I wouldn't go as far retiring their jerseys, but there should be at least some sort of shrine to the indispensable roll players somewhere in Staples.

It'll be hard putting jerseys of guys like FIsher and Cooper and Scott next to guys like West (the logo), Wilt (100pt game), Kareem (nba all time leading scorer), and Magic.

the lakers dont retire role players numbers, and it should stay that way.

but i do think it would be nice if they honored them in some way, as others have said.
