Sessions Understands Role Will Be To Facilitate For Bynum, Gasol, Kobe
Mar 17, 2012 11:59 AM EDT

Ramon Sessions acknowledged the contributions of Derek Fisher with the Lakers during his arrival to the franchise.
"[Derek] Fisher was a great guy for this organization. I'm not here to replace Fisher," Sessions said Friday. "I'm just here to do whatever they need me to do and try to win games..."
Sessions averaged 10.5 points and 5.2 assists per game in backing up Kyrie Irving. He will now be more of a facilitator to Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum.
"I don't need 30 shots a night," he said. "If it's a night where they need me to score, I'll score. If it's a night they need me to get guys the ball, that's what I'll do.
"That definitely helps any time you have those two big trees out there," he said, referencing Bynum and Gasol. "It's going to make my job easier. I could throw a bad pass and they're going to make it look good. And you're not even mentioning Kobe [Bryant] on the wing."

Im going to have to disagree with Bresnahan's quote here, when I heard it live on the radio and saw the rebroadcast video feed on NBA.com I heard "that's what
I do". It fit much better with his statement of being a floor general every time he's out there on the court.
Remember, this guy's career high in assists is 24. Sure he can score when we need and when the defense gives him the lane trying to defend our stars, but this guy is a pass first PG who wants to keep everyone involved offensively.

By the time we got GP, he was pretty much done... Sessions may be the best PG we've had since Nick Van Excel... (other than young Fisher)
Jannero Pargo, Tyrone Lue were in there too though and they had a few significant seasons with other teams.
....Damn... That's pretty depressing when you think about it...

Come on guys. I love the Sessions acquisition as much as you all but is this really news? You'd have to be an absolute moron to come to the Lakers and not understand that your role is to feed the ball to Kobe, Bynum, and Gasol.

He needs to penetrate off the PnRs as much as possible, when they start giving him different looks he needs to make the correct passes. I'm already impressed by his post entry passes, he had a particularly solid one to Kobe in the pinch extended area.

It's hard to believe that in Kobe's 16 years an old as dirt Payton was the best PG that Kobe ever played with.
It makes me wonder how Kobe's game would have changed if he got 3 more open looks a game.

You saw it yesterday. Kobe got open three point shot after shot. Those are some of the easiest shots he's taken in years. Kobe will love what Sessions does for him.

I had to smile a little when I saw that someone wearing a Laker jersey can FINALLY hang with Barea last night on defense

D-Fish used to look like a rock while fast cars pass him by....

The Young Van Exel was better than the old Payton

I'm a fan of Sessions and it will probably good for him to be around guys like Kobe, Gasol and the new, improved Bynum who work so hard to improve in their careers (well at least Gasol used too). I hope Kobe backs off the gas a bit and lets the Sessions situation reach a natural equilibrium... maybe Kobe sees this as an opportunity to get some more rest before the playoffs?
Hill is in the best situation he could be in right now, behind Gasol and Bynum he'll have plenty to learn and if he works for it he'll earn PT in this defensive minded system and that could cement his future in the NBA, even if as a back up big with some D. Whether or not he will work hard or even realizes that he's in a good situation is the question though.

Should be starting soon but Mike is a cautious guy and might go with the guy who knows his system from day one. Blake can't score unless he hit a 3 pt but that never seems too likely.
Hope he's starting by the end of the month, he will facilitate and be a scoring threat at the same time.

It doesn't really matter if he starts as long as he gets 30+ minutes a night. He definitely is most needed with the second unit.
