Did Brown just "lose" Bynum?

Post#1 » by MelosSoreWrist » Wed Mar 28, 2012 5:16 am

Bynum did not look too team oriented sitting on the bench.

I hope Brown knows what he is doing. We aint doing crap without a healthy motivated Bynum in the post season.

How does that make you better than the Lin, Gallo, and Wil fans who root for them over NY?

yeah, i think he did.

speaking strictly on why he lost him and not on bynum's behavior, i believe bynum has grown frustrated with brown letting certain type of selfish play go unchecked.

obviously drew is protesting in a terrible way. i prefer the pau way, making vague comments to the media bout selfish play but still giving it 100%.

I wish Drew would just worry about himself, screw how he thinks Brown is handing out the bias punishment. He needs to take his problem right to Brown himself.

He took a 3 for no reason. The guy can't even shoot jumpers. He deserved to be benched. And if he wants to act like a spoiled brat about it, they can bench him again. Kobe was extremely flustered vs. Memphis and was taking the whole offense out of sync. So Brown took out the problem: Kobe. Bynum shoots a 3 for no reason at all, so Brown took out the problem. Instead of Drew worrying about why Brown didn't bench him for the other 3 he made...he should realize that Brown gave him the pass for the first one because he probably didn't think his C would be shooting more 3s.

I gotta say I agree with Brown on this one. But I think the whole thing was mishandled. Taking him out for a bit just to give him an earful and putting him back out there would have been the play. Taking him out for virtually the whole half...that was excessive. However, I don't know if Bynum essentially took himself out for the rest of the game by just sitting on the bench and not joining the huddles.

in light of post game comments, i'll ammend my previous post and guess that the frustration is mostly simply with brown's coaching.

Brown should of held Kobe accountable right in the beginning of the season. No one on the team would take it seriously if Brown just does it once, where Kobe didn't even play that bad. He is definitely right in benching Bynum though, dude is a **** baby.

Point blank, Brown didn't lose Drew, he lost the whole team.

The thing is the one bright spot is the team is united and players sticking by one another. Nice change of pace imo from the Kobe/Shaq days.

And honestly I think the front office thought they could stop the players from uniting as one by removing the voices in Fish and Lamar, but that seems to have only brought the group closer together

Rebound, play defense, and STFU. Sure Mike Brown isn't the greatest, but at least play hard for your teammates.

Anyone who didn't see this coming obviously didn't look at how things operated in Cleveland close enough.

Mike Trudell ‏ @LakersReporter
Mike Brown, regarding the Bynum benching, kept it simple with: "I just wanted to go in a different direction."
Mike punked out as expected

----------------------

Let me rant on this:

He blew it with Kobe when he called him out for a preseason game, then took it back. Called him out for Denver and took it back. Repeated the process in Washington. Benched him and made up a bs excuse of resting him. Kobe called off his play versus Boston to trust Drew and Drew gave him and not Brown credit

Drew had already questioned him publicly before.

Pau questioned his role and being told to shoot jumpers over playing in he post and wasting his skills.

Matt questioned him on twitter and mason & ireland about being benched with no reason given, and only was added to the rotation when people started chanting we want matt.

Fish told Kerr he didn't get why he felt it was necessary for him to call every single play out to vets who have been there and won before. He called a closed door players meeting. He took the clipboard from him in Minny to break a zone Brown couldn't and Bynum quickly gave him credit and dismissed Brown getting it.

Ron called him a stat guy without a feel for the game. That hurt the worse because he was one of his former assistants so anyone who would know how qualified he was or what he is capable of would be Ron.

Luke went to Ding and questioned his rotations. He wanted to know why minutes weren't being earned and he given a shot instead of the coach playing favorites, despite his play at PF being good in the only extended time he got versus Phoneix and Utah.

Josh wanted to know why he was taken out the rotation as did reporters, and he said he was told nothing.

Mike told Lisa Salters last game he promised Blake he would still get his minutes as he doesn't want to lose him

Mike's biggest problem is he is not a good head coach. Not for this cast. We have volatile seasoned guys who have played their roles and won. He can't tell them how to win, how to play, what is right championship level basketball. He also can't be their buddy because they aren't in to dancing, posing on sidelines for picks, and choreographed foolishness like he promoted in Cleveland. The fact he has no experience as a player or coach managing a condensed season also is blatantly obvious with his bad rotations and high minutes he placed on the big 3

Another fault is that he has a horrible assistant coaching staff that deserves ZERO respect. They should have paid Hamblen, Hodges, and Cleamons to stay as his assistants

Like Martin would say, Mike needs to get to stepping after this season.

I get not being confrontational, but there is a way of being forthright and upfront without doing so. Mike likes to placate and pander to his players; he's passive aggressive at best and worst of all inconsistent and wavers all the time. Bynum sees that response he'll probably just chuckle and shoot a couple more 3's next game.

I expect Bynum to come out and have a monster game vs OKC to show the Lakers his value is worth more than Mike Brown's
