Kobe gunning for a scoring tittle?

Post#1 » by snaquille oatmeal » Mon Apr 16, 2012 12:32 am

is this GB hyperbole or just circumstance?

to my knowledge the only tittles that Kobe cares about is the NBA championship. It seems like that is common knowledge, but I keep reading in the gb that Kobe is more interested in the scoring tittle (not just from foes, but Lakers fans as well). the first thing that I think about when I read this is WHY? why is Kobe so interested this year in winning a scoring tittle. He hasn't won it since 07. why the gun for it now???

as I recall it is MB and the MB system that has given him the freedom to shoot more, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Kobe definitely cares about more than the NBA championship.

Each award, MVP, first team, scoring title adds to his legacy, the accolades you look at when his career his done. That's why he cares

I wouldn't say he's more interested in a scoring title than a championship, but he definitely wants the scoring title. While I don't doubt his shin is troubling him, he would've be out there today if Durant or someone else was closing in on him.

i think its more about the all time scoring list than a scoring title.

I dont see why ppl think hes going for the title by sitting out? sure sit out and let durant go for 40+ the rest of the season so he can secure it?

I think he just wants to be really well rested tbh. Something clicked that he realized we could actually win it all this year. He's just saving up for the push. Take that Paul Pierce!

Honestly, if you're already right there, then there's no harm in gunning for it now. The Lakers aren't going to move up or down in the standings. Let em take 50-60 shots against the warriors or the kings to put up 100 points and make history

he'll be gunning for it.

its a lot easier to get when you're already so close to it as opposed to doing it for an entire season, next season or the year after

its so close, just reach out and grab it

I think he may want to prove doubters/haters wrong that a old man 16 years into his career, can still do what these young guys are doing, even logging hefty minutes. To be honest I grow tired of the whole Kobe is old, father time bull as well. The dude is in probably better shape than 99% of the players in the NBA, that is why he plays so many minutes and still never ever looks winded or tired.

If there is money on the floor go and pick it up. It's so close. Kobe should get the scoring title. He sacrificed it plenty of times in his career.

Should be noted that since Sessions started getting heavy minutes, Kobe's usage pct. went from historic to normal star levels (around 32). Field goal attempts dropped too.

Playing armchair psychologist is kinda lame, so I won't pretend to know what the man's hopes and dreams are, but he was adapting before the injury.

Nothing wrong with wanting the scoring title. And yes I do believe Kobe wants it. But it cant come at the expense of the team winning. And I dont think it necessarily has. I do think it has come at the expense of getting his teammates better looks.

How does that make you better than the Lin, Gallo, and Wil fans who root for them over NY?

won't kobe get the title if he sits out for the remainder of the season? Heh.

Kobe's not gonna score 45 a game. ANd neither is Durant. But if kobe has one bad game he's gonna let durant get really close.

Can a mod change the title got an update on this scoring title lol....

Excerpts

Kobe Bryant joined Fox Sports Radio with the Loose Cannons to talk about what he has been learning from the sidelines and his new role as “coach,” when he expects to return, how much winning the scoring title means to him, if he would like to return before the playoffs start, and what has gotten into Metta World Peace.

If winning the NBA scoring title is important to him:

“Alright let me give you a Black Mamba answer. The fact that the question is even asked to me after all these years is silly to me. People, listeners, or whoever thinks that Kobe is really concerned about scoring, stats, or about individual play, just look at the facts.

Just look at the facts over the last whatever, decade and a half, nobody has won more championships than I have and you can’t be a selfish player or individual player and win that many championships, it just can’t work. Does that answer your question?”

What has gotten into Metta World Peace:

“Me and Metta had a conversation after the Clippers battle that we had at the Staples Center, there were like 100 scuffles in the game and Metta was involved in pretty much all of them. We were talking after the game at dinner and I said ‘Metta do you know, first of all World Peace is a hot name, it’s a dope name.’

Then he started looking at me out of the corner of his eye and was like ‘okay where are you going with this?’ I said ‘some people believe for us to achieve world peace the only way that can be achieved is through sheer will and through force of nature so sometimes you just have to go and conquer the territory and that’s when you establish world peace.’

He’s looking and he’s like ‘huh?’ I said ‘man you go out there and kick butt and then you establish order.’ He’s like ‘okay, I’ve got it.’ He’s playing extremely well. The biggest thing for him was getting into game shape. Once he got into game shape he dropped his weight and his foot speed is a lot faster, his hands are incredible and he’s shooting the ball extremely well.”

Which really explains why he's shooting so much this year. Jordan was a selfish player when he won titles. Kobe was also a selfish player when he won titles. What rational people would think that being selfish is mutually exclusive to winning? As long as one is good enough to pull it off, it doesn't matter what style he wins with. Unfortunately he can't play selfish and still play winning basketball anymore.
