Los Angeles Lakers big man Jordan Hill has just been charged with felony assault for allegedly choking a family member during an altercation in Texas earlier this year ... TMZ has learned.

The charge was filed by the Harris County District Attorney in Houston. It's unclear whom Hill is accused of attacking.

The alleged incident took place on February 29. If convicted, Hill faces up to 10 years in prison.

24-year-old Hill was recently traded to the Lakers from Houston in exchange for Derek Fisher ... and has become a key member of the team.

Multiple attempts to reach a rep for Hill were unsuccessful.

Story developing ...

And we're just hearing about it now? Seems highly suspicious.

Yep. Could be a money thing, or said family member is a bonafide Laker hater taking things way too far.

I wouldn't rule out it being true, but it just seems like weird timing.

He's been charged and will be required to turn himself in (Houston Police) he will then be booked and will likely have to be arraigned. After that happens he will likley be given bail. The key is the judge may tell him he cant leave the state.

There is a good chance we wont be seeing any more of him during these playoff's!

Jordan Hill 3rd degree felony, not available for playoffs.

People always come out of the wood works when someone starts being successful. Funny how we don't hear about this until now even though the incident happened in February. Something doesn't seem right.

Why is this **** coming up precisely at THIS moment if the felony was committed in February?

I swear,it seems like someone's trying to **** our team up..during his time in Houston, nothing
After the trade when he was warming the bench, still nothing
Chance to play, big double double against OKC...fluke,won't happen again, won't do anything for now
Another double double in his first playoff game..that's it,let's pull the plug,he's out

I wouldn't look too deeply into the timing of this and the playoffs. Right now our DA is being investigated and HPD is also under the spotlight for various things. Things are being done very slowly, methodically and by the books right now.

Basically, moving at the speed of government while someone is actually watching!

For charges like this in Houston right now I'd guess that they made sure that all of their i's were dotted and t's were crossed before moving forward.

My question as a Rockets fan is if Morey and the team knew about this situation; and if the Lakers were aware of it. Daryl may have seriously boned you guys!

Well 3rd degree is the lowest of charges, Jordan needs to hop a plane to Houston asap and go through the processing. And here won't miss the entire playoffs, probably just Game 2 at best.

Thanks for the info Butters! :D It seems things are beyond basketball at this point. I too am curious if Morey knew and if the Lakers were aware. I'm even more curious about seeing what happens with the DA in Houston. What's he/she being investigated for? or should I say, what are the allegations?

It's an ex-girlfriend from Florida... I gotta believe it's financially motivated... And if he pays her, she'll stop cooperating...
