ONE OF US YALL...

At lunch I threw on my iHeart Radio as I grubbed on some left over pizza from the night before. Sitting rocking the Raybans in the shade of the Central Cal Sunshine. Nothing could ruin this day. Until, I heard Scott Van Pelt announce the passing of Adam Yauch or as I knew him, MCA.

I'm saddened as some of you may be. We not only lost a taleted artist but we lost a part of our youth today, we lost some identity today. Black, White, Hispanic, Asian B-Boys lost one its O.G.'s today. I don't care what any of you say. If you are a suburban lower to middle class youth that grew up in the advent of hip hop circa 1980, and since then you rock trainers everyday of your life be it Nike or Addidas, your daily wardrobe consists Levis Jeans and a band or bball team tshirt and youre at least in your late 20's you owe your sense of style to the Beasties. Give thanks pay respects.

Give me a break! We are all posers admit it! We all wanted to be MCA. Sure we digged all those rappers like L.L. or Run DMC. But if we were gonna rap we wanted to have the voice of MCA. That Hard raspy voice that sounded like the kid had the hardest life of endless house parties and one to many beer hangovers. But he grew into a very 3 dimensional dude and we learned alot by witnessing his transformation. We lost A rap legend an and life educator today. We lost one the of rank and file today. One of the crew. A homie.

I just wanted to pay homage to the legendary rapper, co-conspirator of the fight for our right to party, and homeboy MCA.He is one of us you all must know this. The Beastie Boys gave us Hip Hop on a silver platter by making it fun and funky. We related to them because they looked and acted just like US. They are us. You and I related more to them than we did RUN-DMC, EASY-E, or Vanilla Ice for that matter. These dudes were the kids we hung out with at school and on the street. Their love for Rap and Basketball exactly like our own. I come to pay respects. Today some of us on this board just got a bit older. Today we say audi five thousand to the genuine soul chief microphone rocker, that kid in the corner, licensed to ill, the one lone Beastie - MCA. Truly one of US.
We'll catch you later homie....
PEACE OUT ADAM..WE'LL HOLD IT DOWN FOR YOU BRO.

Beastie Boy Adam Yauch (aka MCA) follows eight of the most talented high-school basketball players in the nation as they prepare to compete in the first annual "Elite 24" all-star game -- a heated competition played out on the legendary New York City basketball court in Rucker Park. This is the same court where Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Dr. J perfected their games, and now 24 future NBA hopefuls will take to the concrete to prove their worth.

i know right...have no idea what the beasties did, and how they paved the way for both hip-hop and alternative/indie rock...they were/are the ferris buellers of pop music...as cheesy as that may sound...but everybody loves them...

I thought it was weird that he didn't attend the rock hall of fame induction. They Beastie Boys were suppose to do a few songs w/ the Chili Peppers. That would have been sick!!!!

RIP

Thank you for fighting for my right to party.

RIP indeed.

I saw the Beastie Boys for the first time in like '86 and again in '92 just 3 days before basic training, and that last time MCA was passing around a blunt to those of us up front (it was a fairly small venue). I thought for sure I was going to bomb my drug test and spend the rest of my life a loser, but MCA must have sprinkled some magic in that mugg to make it undetectable.

Anyway, I had a heavy heart upon hearing the news simply because I grew up with their music. It brings back a lot of great memories. These guys were true pioneers and had a huge influence on many great hip-hop artists that would follow in the 90's, and MCA was a huge part of that.

Sad indeed, and Hoopdreams, awesome post man. My uncle was the one hearing hip hop all the time while I was up in the early 90s, he bumped late 80s-early 90s tracks EVERYDAY till about the early 2000s. The Beastie Boys were the least impressive to me, in the sense that I thought I could meet these guys right around the corner then I heard them, and man my mind was flipped on its side. I never thought white guys could rap so hard. It opened me eyes as to what hip hop could be, I was just a kid but man you could feel that. Sad indeed

Man we are losing legends left and right these days, growing up the Beastie Boys was on point during my high school days. People forget that these dudes actually paved the way for 3rd Bass, Vanilla Ice or even Eminem......these dudes were the 1st !

They were respected in the black community because what they put on wax wasn't some made up garbage, they had vision, flow, skill everything that makes hip hop fun back in the early era of it. MCA to me was the voice of that group, that raspy get in yo ass style was cool to me.

RIP MCA
