Who should replace Mike Brown if/when he gets fired?

Post#1 » by Kdot » Sat May 12, 2012 8:16 am

Hes not the right coach for the Lakers. Most of us knew this from the beginning. He doesn't command the respect of our players and he has lost the team as the season has progressed. That being said, who do you replace him with? My pick would be Brian Shaw. I know it's been reported that Jim Buss didn't want anything to do with Phil's old coaching staff, but he later commented on that statement saying that it was in Mike Browns hands to bring in his own assistant coaches (as every head coach does in the league). I just hope this goon is gone by the start of next training camp. I'd like to here your guys' thoughts on who you'd like to see as the next Lakers coach if Mike Brown is fired.

Should he be fired, I want a Phil Jackson to come out of retirement and coach until Kobe retires.

Indeed. Honestly, I feel if we can land Dwight Howard or Deron Williams this summer there might be a small chance he comes back. Jeanie was on Mason and Irelend today talking about how he's been much more active after his knee replacement surgery. Once a coach, always a coach. I feel if he ever does come out of retirement again he'll be back with the Lakers because of the sole fact that he's dating the owners daughter.

I could see a mini-trade going down between the Pacers and Lakers. Essentially, I could see Brian Shaw returning to take the head spot in LA, while if Mike Brown is fired after one year, I could see the Pacers wanting him as their lead assistant under Vogel.

Did everyone forget so quickly that Brown was Jim Buss' hire? As much as we all cant stand that he's our coach, the guy who hired him isn't going to be so eager to admit he's already made a huge mistake his first time on the job.

The only chance he has at being fired this offseason is if we get blown out tonight, and even then it's a small chance with our team not being at full strength the entire series.

We're going to be stuck with Brown for at least another year imo.

The Lakers looked just as bad (worse actually) last year under Phil.

I don't know if he just needed a break (ala 2005), but he absolutely sucked last year. He didn't seem to mind that Kobe was gunning and when the playoffs rolled around (especially against the Mavs) his lack of adjustments were Mike Brown-esque.

Our roster is the real problem. It's been flawed for years now and no amount of coaching is going to change that.

Should have pleased the mamba from the start an kept Brian Shaw. I think a lot of u will agree that bynums attitude would be somewhat different because he would have some more respect for shaw rather than mike brown.

this is an unfortunate stance that many uninformed fans seem to take.

anyway, some people have a pretty skewed view of last yr when most people complained about phil and where they basically sucked even worse in the playoffs than this yr against a completely inferior hornets team and then the mavs sweep.

Are you insinuating that I am uninformed or am I reading your quote/bolding wrong?

Jim Buss, the guy who is trying to make a name for himself as the owner by getting rid of everyone linked to the old regime(Phil's regime), isn't going to be eager to admit he's made a big mistake with his first big move. He's going to give Mike Brown more time to give him the chance to look like he made the right decision.

yes, you're uninformed and completely wrong about this being "jim's" hire, as if he's some dictator. lakers fans should know better than that.

I'd argue informed Laker fans(those that read articles during the offseason) should know better than to act like Jim isn't effectively the dictator at this point. He made it obvious to anyone paying attention this offseason when he cleaned house with his firings that this was a new regime. The old guard was served it's walking papers and anyone associated with the old guard stood no chance at being a part of the new system.

There was a very big reason why Shaw wasn't even given a chance to interview for the job when he was the obvious best choice for the players, his success would still be tied to Phil Jackson instead of Jim Buss. It sure as hell wasn't "basketball reasons".

Shaw/Adelman should have both been hired before Brown's name was even considered.

Should LA lose today, I'd gladly take SVG off of the Magic's hands.

You guys have to start upgrading the roster. It's been too long..The coaching is only a small part of the problem.

One great trade away from contention..

One bad trade away from the fall of an empire.

Even though I'm not a huge Mike Brown fan. When you consider that the Lakers probably underwent more changes/adversity this season than any other team, Brown has done alright this season.

Strong leadership (PJ) to weaker leadership (MB)
Went from the Triangle to Brown's style of offense
The mental/emotional effects from the Chris Paul debacle
No Lamar Odom
An ageing roster
A bunch of new faces (McRoberts, Murphy, Hill, Sessions, etc.)

However, if Mike Brown is a defensive minded coach... I'm still waiting to see that very thing from the Lakers. Maybe it will show up in Game 7? The Lakers have under-achieved all season, so its time to finally play up to their potential tonight!

Taking the Pacific Division and third in the Western Conference isn't too bad for Mike Brown's first year as the Lakers coach. But he better make sure that the Lakers win tonight... or as Magic declared, "He might be the first to be run out of town."

I even feel that Kuester would have been a better head coach than Brown. I mean, he is the one that draws all of the X's and O's during timeouts. Mike Brown is just an over-paid cheerleader.
