Kobe Trade Clause

Post#1 » by Kupchak9 » Thu May 17, 2012 4:47 am

if the Lakers dont win this year, do you think that he will go 2007 on us again? I can see that getting knocked out in the 2nd round two years in a row would be very dramatic and frustrating to Kobe. I definitely see him him demanding a trade this summer. Every game Kobe seems to defer from the Lakers, whether it is Brown, Gasol or Bynum. What is best for the franchise, moving the towers for talent or moving Kobe for a future?

kobe's contract even without that clause is untradeable

Nets could be desperate enough and for marketing reasons to trade for him if Deron plans on not resigning.

Kobe's not demanding any trades any more. He already stated he was confident about this team and specifically defended Pau and Drew.

Keep in perspective who was on his team at the time he demanded a trade.

oh it gets better. He's owed 27.5 million next year, and 30 million the year after that.

Cool story bro, we'll still be over the cap or close to it. Who're you going to replace Kobe with for the midlevel exception?

Fair weather fans. One bad game and some of y'all ready to turn on the guy who's been the rock of our franchise for 16 years? Stay classy.

Hope you guys are around for games 3 and 4.

As much as I would hate to see Kobe sulking again I don't think the Lakers should use the amnesty until it's reaching the point of no return. We are not going to have a proper rebuild when we still need to find a way to move Pau's 20 mil/year deal. If we get rid of Kobe then we become the old Memphis.

Wait what? He's the one who messed up in game 2, and didn't show up in game 1. Yeah we need more talent but Kobe is in no position to call out the team when him himself is the one responsible for our (potential) demise.

Kobe is over the trade thing! At his age sure he still has more desire to win than anyone else but he does not want to wear another teams jersey as it will take a bit from his Laker legacy.

But just to humor you lets say you try to trade one player (Kobe) who makes over 25 mill, The other team has to send back 25 mill in salary which would likely be the teams best players.
So i have to ask whats the point of Kobe asking or allowing a trade to happen?

I can tell you've been gone for awhile, this thought of amnestying or trading Kobe has been brought up ever since we were swept by Dallas.

Kobe's a laker for life. Deal with it. This team just needs someone who can hit an outside shot consistently or someone who can create their own shot/ initiate the offense (other than kobe) sessions was suppose to be that guy, but hes barely even getting burn in the 2nd half. The best thing that can happen, but definitely wont, is kobe and the lakers renegotiate his contract, so that the lakers can have the money to surround him with appropriate talent. but 1. i dont even know if thats allowed under the new cba 2. i dont see kobe, or any other player doing that, unless all that really mattered to them was a ring at the end of the season.
this is still a winnable series. a win last night, and no one would be doubting that. now the lakers have their back to the wall, with a back to back at home. anythings possible. heres to hoping.

I believe it's against cba rules to renegotiate contracts. Players can't take "pay cuts". But even if Kobe were to play for the minimum, I believe we'd still be over the cap (Bynum and Pau make some bread too). So even if Kobe were to take the minimum salary, it wouldn't help us sign players of great consequence anyways.

Also, there was a published report about Kobe's value - superstars in this league are actually underpaid, not overpaid. Kobe brings a lot more revenue to the Lakers (and other team's arenas) than his contract, so it's not like he's ripping off anybody.

If you want to see Carmelo Anthony in endless isolation plays, with Bynum trying to kill him, I'm sure New York would love to trade him for Kobe.

And if the Knicks land Nash and while keeping Lin and Novak, having Chandler and Amare as well, Kobe just might give his consent if the Lakers really wanted to move him. It'd be a better basketball situation for him.

Of course, none of these things will happen, none of them should happen.

Kobe never will, or should be traded from the Lakers. The Lakers problems are with their bench, not their starters. They just need to trade Pau for some pieces to add depth.

I don't understand this logic. Why should Kobe be excluded from any trade talks? I am not debating that a team can structure a good package for Kobe's albatross contract, I am questioning why Kobe should be untouchable. Loyalty? This guy tried to leave the team twice, and he has taken the fattest extension every time he renews his deal with the Lakers. He only cares about the Lakers as much as how many titles they can bring to his career, and unfortunately the Lakers have very little wiggle room for improvement because of how much he and Pau are being paid. Marketability? People will eventually lose interest in a team on the decline, and that's what's going to happen to the Lakers as they pay Kobe more and more money while his production drops every year. Contention? Let's be honest, the team isn't going to win anything with Kobe as the primary option anymore. We are at best pretenders with Kobe as the leading player, and with the way he's played this season he hurts the team just as much as he helps, which isn't a good thing for a guy who's paid 26-30 mil a year.

This isn't prime Kobe anymore. On his good days you will see glimpses of the 06-09 Kobe. On bad days he's no different than a washed up AI. It's time to drop the act and stop pretending that he's an untradable guy from the Laker's standpoint.

There are many teams out there that would invest in Kobe. The Mavs would snatch him up. Let alone tams that need to sell tickets. The lolcats. But thankfully Kobe isn't going anywhere. He will wait for management to do what needs to be done.

What ever is to come (if anything) is the biggest risk to Kobe's career as it will determine how it ends.

Lol, wow.
Washed up AI? smh

Still an elite performer, if not top 5. His game will age fine. Look at Duncan schooling Griffin. Nash is still doing his thing even when he's pushing 40. All smart elite players who take care of their bodies will still be extremely effective players.

Even Lebron, Wade, Dwight Howard - all those guys have their problems.

You don't win with one player, even two elite players. You need 3 all-stars and a solid supporting cast that knows their roles. And a good coach.

Kobe is still an elite player, even after one terrible game, after which he deserves criticism. And he can take it.

But hell, Chris Paul hurt his team two games in a row, actually was the worst player on his team the other day shooting them out the game with his 3-13 performance, Dwayne Wade shot 2-13 in the Heat loss last night and bitches at his coach, and Miami fans are calling for his head.

No, I feel blessed to watch Kobe every night he steps on the court.

Can't wait for tonight, I know number twenty-four is going to war.
