Unrestricted FAs this year
There's threads and discussions about getting Dwight, Deron, etc etc.
Looking at the FA list right now, who are some guys we can and should get for cheap (with whatever the hell exceptions we have now)?
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/page/Fre ... -2012-2013
First, here's Lakers who will be unrestricted:
Barnes
Hill
Murphy
Who would you try to resign and who would you try to replace?
Here's a list of UFAs (general list of guys that could sign for cheap, not stars and not necessarily guys I want):
Hinrich
T-Mac
Pargo
Radman
Pietrus
Jamison
Delonte
Dre Miller
Maxiell (player option)
Nate Rob
Camby
Barbosa
Billups
Arenas
Turiaf (player option)
Gerald Green
Farmar (player option)
Deshawn Stevenson
Novak
Nash (would he take much less?)
Redd
Felton?
Diaw
So a big list of random guys who are gonna be FA as of now, who aren't the big names we would never be able to afford. Of course half of them will be re-signed, but out of these guys (or whoever else is a FA), who would you most want (pick 2-3), and who would you be ok with getting?

Wetvak, Jamison, Hill.
I discredited Nash as I don't think it's a possibility to sign him outright, but those the three names I'd want. I'd be ok with Green, West, Camby.

Re: Unrestricted FAs this year
Here's my list of quick Laker additions.
S and T for Michael Beasley (2nd+2nd plus TPE)
Mini-MLE on Gerald Green
Lakers trade McRoberts+1st to get a veteran PG
That's a reconstituted bench right there. Perhaps you even re-sign Jordan Hill. That said what you need is money to do that and I'm not sure how the Lakers can get enough to do those moves, even though they aren't all that costly (think 88m payroll).

Re: Unrestricted FAs this year
bring back hill as our back up 4
barbosa to back up kobe
gerald green to replace barnes. if we miss on him, try signing barnes for cheap.
for as our whole trading situation goes, i'll hold out on what I feel about that for now.

Re: Unrestricted FAs this year
Step 1:
Buy a 1st (its the new way to build a team on the cheap w/ new CBA) then we can trade the player or our 2013 pick. Currently we cannot trade our 2013 1st and that may cost us if we make a major move.
Step 2: Sign Sessions and Hill (even if we are going to trade them, they have value)
Step 3: Use MLE wisely. I go after a) Odom - he has chemistry and you can't buy that b) TMAC old vet that will shoot the ball on the 2nd unit c) Camby
[Nash, Green, Diaw, Felton, Hinrich, Miller, Billups, Barbs will get more than 3 mil]

I would resign Hill and go after Peitrus the guy is a great back up with a nice three shot. He is also a good defender. Also West which would give us instant offense of the bench. If we can get steve Novak, that would also be great for spreading the floor. I doubt we get steve nash, plus we don't need another pg that can't play d. Jamison would also be interesting.

Pietrus is a very good addition. I would have loved to have had his defense against Harden. That would have been ideal. I'd prefer a wing with more offensive firepower but what he brings is excellent.

Re: Unrestricted FAs this year
I'm going to throw a name out there that will surprise you guys but I think he's a good defender, he can bring the ball up the floor safely, is tall enough to make an entry pass and then go hide himself in a corner.
Royal Ivey. We could of used a guy that's at least a decent defender against Westbrook (Blake and Sessions were awful) and can shoot the open 3. He's a free agent and he could be had no surprise for the minimum.

Re: Unrestricted FAs this year
Does know one else realize how good of a signing Delonte is...He's a top 3 perimeter defender. Next to MWP our D will be tight. He's also decent at hitting the three.

Re: Unrestricted FAs this year
I'd like to see us make a pitch to Kirilenko to come back to the NBA.
Great defender, versatile player, can play multiple positions.
Then make a trade to acquire additional talent.

Re: Unrestricted FAs this year
**** Odom. thought he wouldn't be a drama queen anymore with what transpired in Dallas but I guess I'm wrong.
regarding the UFA's, I'm with Jetset and miles. Kirilenko with Artest > Artest+Barnes. with the way Ron has been playing , I think the team can live by him playing in the 2nd unit (hopefully with less 3's attempted).
I also want Green to back-up Kobe. his games with the Nets is proof enough that he knows how to play now. he can be that instant offense off the bench that the Lakers desperately need.
Jamison can be that stretch big man that can provide spacing for the big guys and Kobe to operate. I think he can work well with Pau or Bynum.
Camby's hustle and defense would at least take the burden off Pau/Bynum and let them concentrate with their offensive games.
I still believe we need a true PG and let Sessions run the 2nd unit where he can be more effective w/o Kobe. probably trade Bynum for Deron?
not saying we get all of them (impossible) but damn that roster looks stacked (except the PG spot):
PG - Williams / Sessions
SG - Kobe / Green
SF - Kirilenko / Artest
PF - Jamison / Hill
C- Gasol / Camby
that bench doesn't look good at all.
