i have a meeting with the Lakers today

Post#1 » by Lost Angel » Fri May 25, 2012 10:11 am

its a phone meeting, with the executive director of corporate partnerships.

pretty excited for the call, going to see if I can leverage this into a position with them. that's what the conversation is geared around.

any advice on questions to ask him? as a fan, how can the Lakers use today's technology to change/improve the experience of going to a game? what would you like to see?

with so many people having smartphones, there is potential to be able to gather immense amounts of data that can help improve the experience.

have the bench players tweet during the game, that would probably be a good idea

give us more info about the call. are you interviewing for a job within the 'corporate partnerships' sector of the Lakers? i.e. advertising/sponsorship/suites at Staples? or on tv/internet/apps etc?

are looking for ideas about how they could improve these things?

re: smartphones
obviously, apps w/ live updates/news/scores etc. but, presumably, they already have those..? maybe the 'official' app could have direct links to buy tickets/merchandise etc. maybe they could add a twitter feed which collates tweets from the accounts of players/writers/famous fans/anyone Laker-related? again, i'm sure they would have most of this stuff covered...?

i think the key, from a 'fan's perspective, would be interaction w/ the players/coaches. the more candid, the better. maybe official Lakers stuff has exclusive interviews/in depth player profiles/'behind the scenes' practice type stuff. it's really anything that can bring the fans closer to the players - up to the point of actually streaming practice sessions live on UStream. i guess the market for this is probably pretty saturated too, haha.

give us more info and i will try and help you out.

basically, it's about improving the experience going to the games from both a corporate and consumer perspective. I'm talking about being able to order food/drinks/merchandise directly from an app on your phone and they bring it to your seats. The Lakers could collect that data and see what sells best, reducing the items they aren't making money on.

an app to help with the parking nightmare, or an app that allows for surveys/polls, etc.

The SF Giants have created an atmosphere where going to the game is like a meeting place.

I don't think the Lakers have packages like these.

Giants merch looks pretty suitably tacky for Lakers 'corporate partners'. surely LA fans would eat that stuff up..?

I don''t live in the States and have only been to Staples once, so perhaps i'm not the best eprson to talk to about the 'Staples' experience. does look like all the 'premier ticketing' is actually done through staplescentre.com. but, yeah, i think an exclusive 'corporate partners' - or even just a ticket holder - Lakers/Staples 'Game-night' app could encompass all the things you're talking about e.g. preferential/booked/valet parking, order food/drinks. maybe could also have a direct link to Lakers TicketExchange - fans that go to a lot of games could use the app during the day to check ticket availability for the night. i would think that being able to pre-book stuff would definitely be a big plus for the regulars

edit: could use the app to run half-time competitions, give-aways during the game etc. voting on player of the game, play of the night etc. pretty much anyone who is in the building would need to download the app

great idea. the Warriors are changing the way they handle their mobile strategy, and the Lakers should be on top of it as well. i really like the usage of the app for give aways and competitions

awesome. run it.

can't believe more LA natives aren't trying to help you with this. if you get a gig, surely you would end up w/ some pull @ Laker games - maybe any Staples event...? when i come to LA i will be hitting you up.

good luck, bud.

I understand that girlfriends get bored easily at Lakers games and they would love the concessions app, but your ideas gives Lakers fans a worse reputation.

New Lakers network should have original Lakers programming

Kareem's corner
Magic Johnson talk show
reality tv of scouts going to Europe or college (air it after the draft)
reality tv of training staff dealing w/ injury
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

no it doesn't, a lot of teams are trying to do this and the Lakers should have it in place within 2 years. None of the ideas I put forth disrespect or make Lakers fans look bad. and do you have any suggestions?
