Stop Calling for Lamar Odom

Post#1 » by Stebo_SSK » Sun May 27, 2012 7:01 pm

All throughout multiple threads people keep calling for LA to resign Odom. Its starting to get beyond ignorant about how valuable he is or if he can even be attained. Here are a few issues about the LO situation.

1) He cant be signed until like Dec 10th (not sure of exact date)...whatever it is he wont be available to LA until a month into the season. So this means he misses training camp and it requires LA to bank on a team NOT picking him up beforehand therefore not making moves to enhance its roster before training camp and seasons start.

2) The 2nd issue is that LO's money and minutes belong to Jordan Hill if he is resigned and McBob is under contract next year also. At this point LA would be better off resigning Hill than going after LO who will be 2 years older from his last stint as a Laker.

3) The 3rd issue is that LO really didnt play a factor in preventing us from being swept. So Im still trying to figure out how he would have helped out against OKC? Keep in mind if we have LO there is no Jordan Hill most likely. LO is a good rebounder but he is far from a banger down low or low post defensive presence.

1) Yes he can. He is a free agent. He was traded the season is over.
2) LO has chemistry with our core. You can't buy chemistry. I'd try to get LO and Hill, but if I had to prioritize, I'd take LO.
3) LO did play a factor in us going to 3 straight Finals and winning 2 championships. Let's bring up the round 2 sweep - LO wasn't to blame in that series if I remember (I tried to block it out) correctly.

So people should stop wanting Odom because you think it's ignorant?

I hadn't really said anything about him before, but I think I'm all of a sudden warming up to Lamar joining our roster in December.

From what I've read on Twitter Lamar can't be re-signed until exactly one year after he was traded (which was in December), not just after the season is over.

New CBA makes it so that you can't sign players that you've traded away for at least one year. Odom was traded in December so that means it'll be December before we could actually sign him.

Obviously you have reading comprehension problems I never once blamed Odom for the sweep. I simply stated he didnt help the cause. This year LA played better even under worse circumstances. Everyone knows you cant buy chemistry but you cant buy youth and skills either. The things that LA lacked this year was not something Odom brought. We had no backcourt D, no outside shooting (no LO is not a great spot up shooter) and no assertiveness outside of Kobe Bryant and sometimes Bynum to score. Another thing as I stated above that you neglected to read is that McBob is under contract for 3 million plus next season. How in the world is it condusive to salary and McBob's use to sign both Hill and LO? So they pay McBob 3 million only to let him rot on the bench? Nah he shown he is better than that.

But I dont understand how people dont think that this presnets a problem for the Lakers management. People want LA to resign Odom to be a key piece but no team serious about winning is going to wait a whole month into the season to sign a key piece. Why should mgmt roll the dice on making other moves and the possibility of Odom signing elsewhere? Also he wont even have training camp with the current team and coach. Is that not an issue? People seem to forget that LA is not running the triangle. You wont just be able to stick Odom in the roster and have him perform at the 6th man level he was during the Finals wins.

This is just an opinion, but I think there might be an exemption for signing LO earlier because the trading season opened so late due to the CBA negotiations. it would make sense for the NBA to allow the Lakers and LO to come to an agreement when the trading season starts again. like I said just an opinion.

with all that said, the only way I'd want LO back is if it is for cheap. not sure if Klhoe would go for it.

It's the least David Stern can do. I'd like to seem him back for cheap, if he comes back to form it's definitely worth it.

according to stephen A smith, mike brown is calling for odom.

Recently on ESPN Radio, NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith mentioned the mutual interest in both sides of the situation.

“(Odom) desperately wants to come back and wants to play for the Los Angeles Lakers. Mike Brown desperately wants him back. He’s going to talk to Buss and Lakers hierarchy to see what they can do about getting Lamar Odom back.”

No he can't. Just like people asking for Fisher back next season for minimum.

Odom would definitely come back as long as the Lakers mae him feel wanted.

The Lakers have to court Odom like an ex-girlfriend that you really want back.

Two small details though. (1) In courting Odom and whispering sweet nothings in his hear you have to give him the most money you have available. That means the 3 million MMLE. To me a fair amount for what we know Odom can bring. (and 2) Give him a no trade clause to show your devotion.

The only real competition will come from Brooklyn.

If we really want LO back, Kobe and Ron really have to help make the push.
