Ireland ESPN Radio: Pau for Milsap/Harris?

Post#1 » by TheXFactor » Fri Jun 1, 2012 11:49 pm

Mason and Ireland show on 710 ESPN. John Ireland said he has a Utah source that says the Jazz would do a Millsap and Harris trade for Gasol. They both have 1 year contracts for 2012-13.

Would you do it?

2012-13
Millsap: $7.2 Million
Harris: $8.5 Million

If we didn't find better then yes. It makes sense financially and Harris with the starters out there is a little better than Sessions (not better player but more of an off the ball PG fit with Kobe) and Millsap is a much more effective PF than Gasol with these guys. The starting lineup would be about the same, probably a little better defensively.

i'd love that trade, harris had a bit of a comeback yr but more importantly milllsap is awesome.

no idea why the jazz would do that though. they need to clear the glut of big men and get favors/kanter more PT, not the opposite. if they had a corresponding trade to get rid of al jefferson for help on the perimeter it would make more sense. even then though, committing to that 2nd yr of pau making 20 mil is REALLY hard to swallow if im the jazz.

Both would be in a contract year and would have to elevate their games for a good contract, however I would rather flip Harris, if possible, for two decent role players.

Isn't Utah hellbent on not paying the luxury tax? This sounds so anti-Utah for it to be true.

Though if it is I'd be doing cartwheels.

devin is like an allstar version of sessions, i would love for him to be here. but im only down with it if were going to do a follow up trade after this for a 2 guard that can stretch the floor or maybe even trade sessions for one. harris and sessions would be a very talented pg duo but im afraid their poor 3 point shooting might hurt us somewhere along the road. just take a look at what happened in the playoffs, blake got more pt over sessions because of his shooting.

imo i would rather do the old trade that lakers and rockers agreed to and maybe revise it a lil bit. pau + fillers for scola/dalembert(expiring),martin,dragic.

Yeah. That deal is no longer on the table.

Yeah I'd do that deal in a heart beat, Milsap is much more rugged and willing to mix it up down in the paint plus you don't have to run any sets for him. I said for the last few years that all Harris needs is a change of scenery, dude hasn't been right since that disaster 06 Finals. It's all in his head.

Harris is much bigger, a solid penetrating guard and not a bad defender. Also it's obvious that the Jazz have no choice soon but to move Milsap so they can get something for him. With Favors in the fold and being younger Paul is the odd man out.

I'd only do this if Deron or Dwight don't materialize.
I'd hold onto Gasol as long as I could as a chip to get one of thoe 2.

If that doesn't pan out, Gasol for Milsap/ Harris is a steal for the Lakers.
I don't know why the Jazz would do it though.

1. They have a glut of bigs, plus Favors is one of their building blocks going forward. And he's coming up on his extension soon, they're not going to pay cash for him to come off the bench.

2. They tried to trade Harris before but they're asking for too much that no one wants to give up. Pau works for them because they sorely need a decent 5, even though I don't think Pau can play the 5 for a whole season. We saw that at the start of last season, he wears out too easy.

How much do you think Milsap would get in the offseason if his play stayed the same? Because the Lakers want to decrease salary.

Good points.
But they have Jefferson at the 5.
And from what we saw from Pau this year, he doesn't do very well facing the bucket as a 4. He is more of a a back to the basket, low post guy.

Don't get me wrong. I love this deal.
And I can see that the Jazz would want to develop Favors. I just don't see how getting Pau would work for them.

Deep, why would they need pau if the have Jefferson at the 5?

the more i think about this, the less it makes sense for the jazz.

jazz have a glut at pf/c with millsap/jefferson expiring...so they trade the better one for pau gasol's two yr 20 mil deal? makes zero sense.

Gasol fits their big men (Favors-Kanter) perfectly. Utah doesn't have salary in two years so they have to sign players anyway to fulfill their salary cap minimum. They'd rather do it with someone that isn't a long-term deal and is still a very good player. Both Millsap and Harris are gone in a year.

Utah fans have been supportive so far. I think it's a win-win trade for both teams.

Jefferson is owed 15 mil next year. Unless the Jazz are going to move him in a separate deal I don't see why they would want Gasol.
