In my opinion the Lakers should seriously consider waiting to trade Gasol until after the Olympics. He will be Spain's go to featured player and will take them far into the Summer Games. He was the leading scorer of the Beijing games if I'm not mistaken (or at least one of the higher scoring players). GMs will see Gasol used how he should be and thus his value will definitely increase

There is no winning a Gasol trade, only degrees of losing. You trade Pau, you won't get the same talent level back, and you'll be putting Pau into a position where he can play his best, instead of a system which at the moment isn't maximising his capacity to impact the game. It's going to look awful when Pau goes to Chicago or Minny or Houston, and Lakers fans have to watch that team post a better record than the Lakers do, cursing the players they got in return.

It's like 2005 redux. Fans all around the NBA hated Shaq, he got traded, and he became a loved hero as he helped his team improve expoentially, while Kobe was scorned as a ball hogging pariah. The same thing could be on the cards next year. I wouldn't trade him, but it sounds like he's gone, thanks to Fredo Jnr.

last i checked, pau's not an expiring, he doesnt get to dictate where we trade him.

that said, if we can get young assets that meets our expectations from a team thats looking to make that leap from perennial treadmill team to semi-contenders, teams like minny or milwaukee or indiana or utah

as long as we're plugging those holes in our team, id say go for it, heck if we get involved in a 3way to land deron and those young assets we can flip to brooklyn, all the better

Buy some 1st round picks for 3 million each and trade those guys. That is how you increase value w/o getting taxed. Buying picks will be the new thing w/ the tax penalty going up 4 times. But the price of picks wont skyrocket until the other teams figure that out.

Hes a cancer? dafuq, dude was basically traded, then sent back to us, never badmouthed the organization, played well during the season with a reduced role and was our 2nd/3rd best player on the team.

I'm still in the camp who believes that Houston would want Pau for the right price; but don't get your hopes up of increasing his value as it stands right now because of a performance in the Olympics. Honestly - at his age skipping the Olympics and getting a full offseason of rest would increase his value more than a couple weeks of action in international ball.

Most GMs are not going to overlook any of the issues with Pau because of a potential strong showing at the London Games. I think that his value is pretty much known at this point. The problem you have with Pau is his age and his contract - I'm sorry to say it, but you are not going to get back close to what you think is "fair value" for him in a trade at this point. You definitely are not going to "win" a deal.

Last December I think that my Rockets were the one team who valued Pau at his highest and got the Lakers to agree to the best deal imaginable - Chris Paul. Too much has changed since then across the board to look back at that deal that was blocked by that #$#@ $##@@#@ david stern to consider that deal as a template for a new deal.

Let's face it- we all know that the only way that a deal with Houston and LA involving Pau will happen if we can hornswaggle another team into a three-way deal getting us both what we want!

Can't we all agree that the only way to increase Pau's trade value is to trade Bynum for Howard? Doesn't his value then just about exactly equal Deron Williams'?

I think what many people fail to realize though is that Gasol's game was never predicated on his athleticism. He will still be productive in his 30's just like how Garnett has still been productive despite being 36. Wherever he does go he will still be productive for at least another 4 years
