It sucks when your team fades into the shadows

Post#1 » by NBAontwitter » Tue Jun 5, 2012 6:48 am

You want a good closing like Jordan's 1998 Bulls

Russell 69 Celtics

But i guess that isn't the norm. I hope Kobe can back to that title level with more talent on the team.

But Magic went out getting beat in 5 by MJ.

Isiah went out bad after the 1991 bulls swept the,

Bird went out bad after they lost to the Pistons in 88.

Kareem went out bad getting swept by the Pistons.

Teams all ended with weak supporting cast, and their superstars were in their 30s and couldn't do super man efforts anymore.

I guess the 1998 Bulls did the best reloading. But i think if they stayed around a yr longer, the Spurs would have taken then out in 99.

Since you posted this on the Lakers page, are you implying that we are fading into the shadows?

This team isn't done yet. Lets see what management/ownership does over the summer first, before we begin claiming this team's done.

When really looking at our past as an organization..... It does look like we're already in the midst of our dark days again.... Is this team getting back to the championship during Kobe's twilight? It doesn't look likely.

The Lakers were dominant in the late 40s- early 50s; and then fell off until the early 60s when they began their long run of conference championships coming up short against the dynasty Celtics in just about every finals.... Then after their 72 championship, they were OK but not a legit championship contender through most of the 70s until they stepped it up in 1980 again(Johnson's rookie year)...The Lakers dominated the NBA through the next decade and then fell off into oblivion for a solid 5 years before Shaq/Kobe arrived; and it still took 4 years (and Phil) before they got back into championships...The 2000's was completely dominated by the Lakers with just a small hiccup for 2 years after the Shaq and before the Pau trade... It's dark times guys...and it won't happen overnight getting back...

The Lakers will ride out Kobe's last years with a team that is 'in the playoffs, but not a true championship contender'..it will be enough to keep selling those seats for WAY TOO much money and continue to be a very profitable lucrative team for it's owners...But championships?? likely not going to happen with Mike Brown coaching, Jim Buss running the team, and a seemingly unworkable roster without enough moveable chips and NO draft picks... The Clippers will likely win the pacific division for a few years; OKC will run the league for a few years; San Antonio is still run by Pop; Memphis is a comer; the Lakers are in need of being 'blown up'.....or need to get REALLY LUCKY....

the Paul trade and Stern's intervention destroyed the Lakers in a big way, and hammered their future.......destroyed Pau and his overall value.... Paul, Kobe, Bynum and pieces could've been enough to get the Lakers back this season; with flexibility to further enhance the roster through smaller moves... a team with a top 5 PG, top 5 wing, and top 2 center could've been the answer.

This board's bitching is incredible. If you can't stand not winning a championship ever year then go be a Heat fan.

Destro speaking the truth. Pretty sure Pau was gone pre-CP3 scenario too.

Yo NBAontwitter.....dude we're a long way from being finished. Just need a few tweaks at some positions that lacks depth.

Being fair minded and NOT blind homer, there is a point in this. Sterns intervention FFFF'd things up in what was a serious piece. HOWEVER, trust me on this, weve been through this, and we have seen this movie before. With all of the tons of speed and guard play goin crazy in this league and especially on the elite teams. THE GAME WILL COME BACK TO US. what does that mean? With all of the history you mentioned above, the league always comes back around to being a game WON IN THE MIDDLE. Our franchise historically has been built on that foundation. Mikan. Wilt. Kareem. Shaq. As of Today, we still have force and power in this area. That is where our success will come. We will rebuild starting from the inside out. Now that could mean using the pieces weve got. Or trading those pieces to aquire more strength in the middle. ex: dwight(just an example folks, dont get carried away about were not gettin dwight). Or like last offseason, use those pieces to bring in better guardplay, athleticism and speed. Now, if were stuck with an aging KOBE and nothing else, it could be a further wait. But we do have the pieces in place to spring us back into contention for the title immediately. It will be however, be up to our front offices maneuvers that will decide our fate in the upcoming off season. Patience and let it unfold . . .

Whatevs, you guys knew what I meant :nonono:

Frontrunners on this board can't stand not winning a title every year and can't stand ESPN not giving them attention as a favorite.

As a Spurs fan, let me speak for our fanbase when I say we are loving our guys ride into the sunset, and are not fussed if they don't win another title.

Fade into the sunset? Child pleeeeeze. If there is one great thing I can say about this frannchise and our team, is that we don't fade, but are always relevant and searching for ways to bring a title. Even in the nick van exel , eddie jones days. Sh** was fun and competitive, and we were hovering....but always knew that we were waiting to eventually turn it around...POW....Shaq was brought in on a blockbuster that shoook the NBA. So I'm very certain that the goals are the same within our front office, and that is to win it all. Do we always agree on the process? No. But rest assured, they and their fanbase want the same thing. #17
