Deron Williams Discusses L.A. Possibilities

Brooklyn Nets guard Deron Williams has been the focal point of a lot of free agent talk already this month and the NBA season isn’t even over yet. Still, Williams’ destination is a very popular talking point, as numerous teams are reportedly interested in acquiring the All-Star guard.

On Wednesday, Williams was in L.A. for the electronics convention known as E3, and discussed the possibility of joining the Lakers and what the team would need to do with Mark Medina of the L.A. Times.

As far as the Lakers are concerned, Williams appeared well aware that the Lakers’ payroll is limited.

“I know they don’t have any money to just go out and sign me,” Williams said. “It’ll have to be some kind of deal.”

This makes it very apparent that Williams is clear of the financial limitations currently holding the Lakers back from making a large free agent signing. But it also signifies that he has at least considered some of the possible ways for the team to still acquire him.

In the past Williams has expressed his distaste for the Lakers, and reiterated that same statement on Wednesday. But left things with a rather ominous, “we’ll see.”

Deron + Lopez(resigned) for Sessions(resigned)+Bynum

Then turn and trade Lopez immediately for Josh Smith to upgrade the PF position athletically..

5.Pau
4.Josh
3.Metta
2.Kobe
1.Deron

Why would we trade Bynum?

Because he has the most value and Pau is enough for us to win a championship if we strengthen other positions.

+ I personally think that if Drew hasn't got his head straight with those years in the league, he never might. I love his game and all, but we have to win now(because of Kobe), not wait 3 years until he's ready. And with current roster we certainly aren't winning sh*t. So maybe the best option is to trade him. We ain't going to get Deron for Pau, that's for sure.

So you would give up Bynum instead of Pau?

He clearly explained why in his post

Well, not really. He mentioned trade value and the fact he doesn't think we will get Deron for Pau.

If we could get Deron for Pau, would you still trade Bynum?

Of course I wouldn't. We need to keep at least one of them. Where else you're going to find such talented 7 footers? But I just think that getting Deron for Bynum is more realistic. Like I said, I like Andrew, but I don't think that he is irreplaceable.

Deron isn't saying anything that we don't already know. We can't force the Nets to deal him to us because we don't have capspace is pretty much all he said.

Sure, but that's a moot point, because no rebuilding team would want a 32 year old Gasol who is still due 40 mil.

I am snap-trading Bynum for a re-signed Deron. Obviously would rather give up Pau, but I don't think that's going to get it done

Dream come true scenario. I would personally rather give up Drew than Pau, even if given the choice. Imagine if we resigned Lamar too.

DWill
Kobe
Artest
Odom
Gasol

unless you are the Nets and facing losing Deron for nothing. at the very least Pau becomes an expiring the following year for them not to mention that he still has quite a bit in the tank left. while they don't have any say with Deron they would with Pau.

I think if we give up Bynum, we keep Sessions as a backup and try to include Steve Blake or McRoberts.

If we give up Pau, maybe we have to give up Sessions too... But I think having DWill without a solid backup isn't a great formula.

add Beasley or Ariza, Hill, and Sessions i'd be happy with that for a playoffs rotation.

Blake is a good enough backup, especially if your starter is a multiple all-star like Deron.

Obviously we'd rather have Sessions, but either scenario is fine with me.

****, how about all of them? Keep Hill, Sessions, and trade for Beas. Ariza to backup Ron would be ideal too, maybe in place of Barnes.

I would endorse Bynum & Sessions for Williams & Lopez... D Will is a top 3 PG & Lopez did average 17 & 8 two years ago... He is a top 10 center... You need to give to get & the Nets have no interest in Pau... We need to be realistic... I would also send Hill to Minny for Beasley around $5 million... Our lineup would be solid:

PG: Deron (6'3")
SG: Kobe (6'6")
SF: Artest (6'7")
PF: Gasol (7'))
C: Lopez (7'0")

Bench: Beasley (6'8"), Blake (6'3"), Ebanks (6'9"), LO (6'10") & McBob (6'10")...

Lopez and Gasol play the same game... Lopez is a little more athletic but not as skilled... I think they will conflict with each other worse than he and Bynum.

That starting lineup loses to OKC and probably Miami.

And I don't like that bench at all... LO and Beasley are unknowns... And we know all too well what the rest can't do...

are you saying you would rather have Gasol/Sessions than Gasol/Lopez?
