Does anyone else think Buss is messing with Mitch

Post#1 » by 3-Pt_Shooter » Tue Jun 26, 2012 3:17 pm

In your opinion, is Jim Buss preventing Mitch Kupchak from doing his job as GM? I don't know, I'm beginning to think that Buss is calling all of the shots and is willing to go into the 2012-13 season with little to no roster changes.

IMHO Buss needs to take a step back and trust that (moving forward) Mitch will make the right decisions for this great franchise. It's not like Mitch is unproven in this area. He has already put together two NBA championship caliber teams... Let him do it again!

His job as GM... Making the Lakers a championship level team through trades - i.e. Possibly trading Bynum for Derron Williams. Do you think Buss would even consider making that trade. I don't feel like he would.

It just seems to me that Buss has been willing to "stand pat" and just focus on improving the bench play instead of trying to acquire more star power to put along side Kobe.

The Lakers are working in concert...the CBA is preventing a lot of what they would like to do to improve the team. That and they have paid big time players to win championships recently.

Buss didn't stop the Paul deal, Stern and the NBA did.

Threads like these demonstrate a remarkable lack of insight into how the FO (or any FO) works.

You used your first post for that... really!? Anyway, I never claimed to know how a front office in the NBA worked. To really know the complexity and inner-workings of any FO a person would need to have actually worked in one. Have you?

Look, my only point here was that it seems to me that Jim Buss and his love affair with Bynum is holding up any possible trades that could land the Lakers another all-star caliber player (i.e. Deron Williams) to put along side Kobe. I think we all want to see the Lakers make a couple of serious title runs before Kobe calls it quits.

You used your first post for that... really!?

Yes, I did. Problem? Or do you just like stating the obvious? Maybe you believe I violated the sacred rule of conduct for first-time posters. I'm not really interested. Can't say it's my first time posting here though (sorry), nor is it my first time replying to disgruntled homers who want to blame everything on Jim Buss.

Anyway, I never claimed to know how a front office in the NBA worked. To really know the complexity and inner-workings of any FO a person would need to have actually worked in one. Have you?

No, I haven't, but then again, I'm not the one claiming what must be going on in ours without being there, now am I? So your whole point there is kind of moot.

Oh really? What possible trades have you seen that include Bynum for another all-star caliber player? Name a credible source please; don't just go and pull some garbage off the frontpage of Bleacher Report or IBTimes. That you haven't heard Bynum's name in trade talks so far doesn't mean squat. Did anyone hear Luke or Fisher's names in trade rumors up at the deadline? No? But they were traded, right?

The lesson here is just because we haven't heard Bynum's name mentioned in any reports so far does not mean that the Lakers aren't talking about him -- or that other teams haven't inquired. I'd be infinitely more inclined to believe this report from the one guy who nailed the Sessions trade than I would the words of someone who thinks our FO operates under a bureaucratic triangle that lacks "trust":

The Lakers are exploring all kinds of potential deals, having floated every name on the roster this side of Kobe Bryant. They are said to be open to trading Metta World Peace for a late first-rounder, with their eyes on Baylor forward Quincy Miller and Kentucky point guard Marquis Teague.

Also, if Buss was really as in love with Bynum as suspected, why haven't we signed him to an extension yet? Are you saying it just slipped his mind? Couldn't be that there are lingering doubts about Bynum's worth to the team, could it? No, of course not. Never.

Sounds irrational to me, but I'd wager you've got another more convoluted way to sidestep it. Which takes us to the next point: what if by some absurd chance you're right about everything? Is all this silly obstinance worth being able to say "I told you so!"? That means 2 more years of Kobe's career secretly rooting for the Lakers to fail, by your own acknowledgement. Does that make your argument any more sensible?

You don't have to have worked in a front office to possess common sense. In fact, more often than not, that's probably how you get to landing a job there in the first place. So unless you're willing to present a fact-based argument that doesn't rely on logical fallacies and blind emotion, yes really, you're going to be dismissed.

Jim, is that you?

Yes, I did. Problem? Or do you just like stating the obvious? Maybe you believe I violated the sacred rule of conduct for first-time posters. I'm not really interested.

No dude, there is no problem at all. This is the United States and this country was founded on every man's ability to have free speech and speak their mind -- you have the right to say anything you want as long as you're not being disrspectful towards anyone.

All I did was state an opinion, which is actually shared by others on this board mind you. And for some reason you felt it necessary to make a negative comment towards me. That wasn't very cool dude...I'm just saying!

Can't say it's my first time posting here though (sorry)

So, if that wasn't your first post here...then what? Did you create a new account just so you could respond to my thread?

No, I haven't, but then again, I'm not the one claiming what must be going on in ours without being there, now am I? So your whole point there is kind of moot.

Again, I didn't claim anything... I expressed an opinion. That's all. This board is full of opinions. I'm entitled to mine just like you're entitled to yours.

Oh really? What possible trades have you seen that include Bynum for another all-star caliber player?

None... And to me that's the problem (but that's just my opinion). The FO has thrown Gasol's name out there and have made it very clear that he is on the trading block. Why not actively shop Bynum the same way?

The Nets told the Lakers they weren't interested in a package that centered around Gasol for Derron Williams. But they would be interested in looking at a trade involving Bynum. So why not look at that option? And who knows maybe they are.

I'm not in their FO, so I can't speak on the particulars but it just seems to me that Bynum isn't as "available" as Gasol -- and I think he should be.

Are you done spewing your venom? Dude there is no possible way you could even begin to know me from one very brief thread. You're making a lot of dumb comments and taking shots at my character and Laker allegency (which has lasted for 33 years now). I would never root for the Lakers to fail. I don't care about being right. I only care about the Lakers being able to make serious title runs every year -- which means acquiring star power (side note: my opinion only).

So unless you're willing to present a fact-based argument that doesn't rely on logical fallacies and blind emotion, yes really, you're going to be dismissed.

I think you totally missed the point of my thread... I only asked if there were other people on this board who felt the same way about Jim Buss. For a couple of years now there have been more than enough Laker fans who have been somewhat leary of him and the decisions he has made so far.

At this point, I think it's ok to be a little skeptical of Jim Buss. But we'll just have to wait and see what happens and how the team shapes up for next year.

one thing we've never cared for is leading titles that reveal nothing about the context of the thread.

Please keep it civil. So far nobody has launched any personal attacks so varying opinions are welcome
