Hawks Interested in Pau for J.Smith Deal

http://www.latimes.com/sports/lakersnow ... 9901.storyThe Atlanta Hawks have aggressively tried to trade power forward Josh Smith to the Lakers for Pau Gasol, initially expressing interest in Gasol shortly after Oklahoma City eliminated the Lakers in the Western Conference semifinals, The Times has learned.
If the Lakers struck a deal with Atlanta, they would lose the height advantage that made them one of the longest teams in the NBA — Smith is 6 feet 9, three inches shorter than Gasol — but would instantly become more athletic.
Smith isn’t nearly as strong as Gasol in shooting, though he averaged a commendable 3.9 assists last season. Gasol averaged 3.7 a game.
Like Smith, Gasol could use a fresh start with a new franchise.
What do you guys think? How would our offense flow with Smith clogging the middle even more than Pau did? How scary would our defense be with a frontline of MWP-Smith-Drew? How does this impact Dwight who's been friends with Smith since high school, coming to LA?

Well Smith wont clog the middle more than Pau did b/c he really isnt a true post player and is athletic. This would be a good look for LA...could be the change of scenery that Josh Smith needs also.

I'd do it, but I'd definitely explore other options first. A lot of other options.

When this was brought up during last season, I didn't like it much because of no backup center. After seeing Jordan Hill, if the Lakers can bring him back or another decent backup then I'd go for it. Unless the Rockets are willing to offer Scola/Lowry, I'm not sure what other impact players Lakers can get in return that will fit under Mike Brown's system.

In years past, I'd say hell no... But Gasol is declining and Josh Smith is only 26... I think he is more comfortable facing up than Pau and would give Bynum more space and freedom to operate....
Also, he is best friends with Dwight

Josh Smith for Pau won't work straight up the Hawks would have to add a Marvin Williams to make the numbers work also I would like the 23rd pick also but that maybe to much for the Hawks to give up.
Lakers Roster
PG. Session(resigned), Blake, Morris(resigned)
SG. Kobe, Goudelock
SF. Artest, Williams, Eyenga, 23rd pick
PF. Smith, McRoberts
C. Bynum, Hill(resigned)
Lakers will probably need 1 more SG dont know who maybe Roy maybe someone else I really dont know.

add a player and now we're talking but for Smith alone, no way no way. I'm mixed on Marvin Williams, Teague would be nice though I doubt they let him go.

Yes, Yes & Yes... Pau for Smith & pick #23... This deal hits all 3 Laker Objectives... We save money (Josh Smith has one year left at $12 million), younger (Josh Smith is 26 years old) & get a decent Point Guard (via draft)... It also allows us to pursue CP3 next offseason... Any offensive shortcomings will be offset by a stronger defense and more athelticism... In addition, what would CP3 say if he had the opportunity of swith LA teams to run with Kobe, Smith & Bynum in "purple & gold" with Buss instad of Griffin, Jordan & Butler with Sterling...

CP3 will never be a Laker. He had his chance to hold out like he first tweeted the night it happened. He chose not to. No way he changes locker rooms.
I am not down with Pau for Josh Smith. I'd much rather trade for Igoudala and the 15 or figure out a way to make B. Jennings work.

Pau was never going to get traded for Beasley.
