Can this kid potentially be that good to lose a player like Gasol?

If the front office is looking to trade Gasol then it tells me that they don't believe the current core group of this team can win a championship. By trying to trade for an early pick in the lottery it also shows that they are preparing for life after Kobe and Gasol. and are taking the steps for the easiest transition. Sure the Lakers could just ride out the contracts of Kobe and Gasol and have all this cap space in 2014 but its not looking like there will be too many promising free agents as there were in 2010.

If the front offices approach really is to get MKG then I like their approach. Him and Bynum could be a nice duo to build around in the future.

How good can MKG be? Can he be a star player in this league? Can he make an impact right away? Who will play PF if Gasol is traded to get MKG?

I like MKG and would love to see him on the Lakers. With that said he still needs to be paired up with the right guy and I don't believe Bynum's that guy.

MKG + Dwight??? Hmmmmm nice!

He's a good kid.. but you have to wonder what message this would send to Kobe as far as a "win now" mentality.

It's going to take Kidd-Gilchrist a couple years to really develop his game and flourish. It's not something that's going to happen as soon as he puts a purple and gold uniform on.

MKG is a win now player in the sense that he'd be a big upgrade over MWP.

He's pretty ready for the NBA imo. Fantastic defender, great rebounder for the SF spot, active slasher and probably the best in college at that with great handles. If he can learn to shoot he can be a really special player.

He gets compared to Iguodola a lot but I think he is similar to Marion with vastly better ball handling skills. He will be a fantastic pick up even at the price of Gasol.

If Leonard could produce for Spurs last year and Bradely start for Boston, Mike Brown needs to be brain dead to not get similar production, if not more from MKG.

Also a team-first guy with low maintenance and a natural leader.

We might as well not even discuss this b/c no way LA is springing the 3rd overall pick with Pau Gasol...just aint happenin

But what if he's still there at 5... Davis (automatic), Robinson (seems to be the Cats pick if they cant move it), Beal (Wiz will take if nobody moves up to 2 to snag him), Drummond (Cavs may just go for the highest potential behind Davis rather than take a wing, and he is Bynum ish ceiling if he hits, or perhaps they like Barnes better as he was in twice to see them), that leaves MKG at 5.

MKG is a guy the Lakers can use to win right now *and* build around in the future. I really don't want to go through the pain of tanking just to get Kobe's successor.

If they really like him, the Lakers should do what it takes to get him... whatever it takes!

I'd even considering trading Bynum.

Pass on all SF's please. They don't pan out outside of Lebron.

Trade Kobe for a top 5. Why not. All the other trade rumors sound just as stupid at this one. No one is taking Pau's 40 million off Lakers books. Lakers will just have to play with what they have and be happy for a few more loosing season.

it's been a while since LA buzzed with a prospect of getting a top 5 pick. I believe he fills a need.

MKG will not be able to guard big time SF like MWP.
