Mike Brown (this season)

Anybody else feel a little uneasy with him taking the helm of what could be an offensive beast of a team? he had very few glimpses of brilliance last season, what is he going to do different especially with Nash?

He has full training camp, will we develop an actual system on offense? I for one am a little uneasy but have trust Kobe, Nash and Pau will provide distinct direction more often than not.

I felt uneasy when we hired him and that feeling was only intensified when he offered reporters a bucket of bubble gum at team workouts.

I'm expecting our chemistry to be a lot like the Clippers last year, with Nash essentially being the offensive coordinator much like CP3 was. Everybody knows Del Negro had no idea what to do about anything, the same applies to Brown.

I will say this though -- our offense also looked like trash in Phil's final two years because we lacked the pieces to make it all work. We still need better outside shooting, so while Nash is going to make Brown look a little better there will still likely be some chemistry issues. I fully expect to once again have the worst bench in the league.

I think he's a smart enough guy to know that Nash and Kobe have much higher basketball IQs on offense than he does. Hopefully he'll let them sort of take over the offense, and focus more on defense. As long as that works out, it could be a great partnership between those three. As much as most of us dislike Brown, he makes his players WORK on defense.

I agree with this. By doing this our offense won't look like crap like it did the past season when ever Kobe would go off. But knowing MB, I doubt he can make any rotation that resembles this

Our offense was piss poor because we had no shooters. We had 4 post up players in Kobe, Ron, Bynum, Gasol and 1 poor shooting PG that likes to drive.

How the hell can you create a fluid offense with players like those? Look at every top offense in the last 10 years. They all had excellent shooters. In the prime of our offense in 07-08, we had 3 40% 3pt shooters - Sasha, Vlade and Derek. Even Luke freaking Walton shot close to 40%. We were blowing people out on 3s alone.

So stop blaming Mike Brown and blame the GM for putting such garbage shooting on the court.

This is basically on point, but I find it hard to fault Mitch for the attempts he's made to add shooters the last few years. Most people lauded the Steve Blake signing at the time as a smart move. Metta was a pretty decent 3-pt shooter when he was brought in, only to slowly languish.

Barnes, Kapono... hell, even McRoberts and Murphy were all supposed to be capable shooters. Not lights out but capable of keeping defenses honest.

Then they come here and they choke. They have crises of confidence or they pay for tough shots that they get late on the clock and end up chucking up awkwardly.

I don't blame Brown or Mitch for that. I blame the twin towers model. Bynum and Pau never worked in it before; Pau and Odom did.

Maybe Nash compensates for the lack of chemistry between the trees, and even suppresses it entirely. We will just have to see.

he's a smart guy, he's got solid basketball ideas and solid fundamental methods on how to implement them

the problem is that he's rigid, those solid basketball ideas don't fit our team like a glove, he didn't inspire confidence.

it didn't help that all of our shooters turned to butter once they started missing, which in turn led to kobe deciding he needed to pick up the slack.

not to mention our team wasn't built mentally tough as nails and laid their hats on defense (ie boston) and the main reason why brown was brought in was because for defensive purposes, to turn us into a boston, a chicago.

nash will alleviate some of our offensive struggles. what we really need now are guys with defensive swagger.

Kobe agrees, in a WT link, that the offense was disorganized and inconsistent, worse than it was under Phil for lack of identity. Nash will help with that. The Lakers are shaping up nicely and if they do get Hill, they will be titans on offense.

Actually, come to think of it, almost anything that eats into Metta's minutes would be good, because the player formerly known as Ron Artest really sucks these days.

I'm excited to see how Nash re-shapes the team offensively.

It seems likely, but Metta should still be replaced with a productive shooting SF, someone like an Anthony Morrow or the Raptors' latest pick-up, Landry Fields.
