Elton Brand to be Amnestied - Can we take a run at him?

Woj reporting that Elton Brand will be amnestied. He'd provide a hell of a lot more depth than McBob...is it possible to claim him off waivers in a similar move to the Chauncey Billups signing last summer?

Someone with a little more knowledge of the business side of things, what options do we have?

its possible but I'm sure teams with worst records will make a bid and claim him before we get a chance.

no, its not possible for the lakers to put in a claim cause they have no cap space to put in a claim with.

they'd have to hope no one puts in a claim, but with only 1 yr remaining, i'm sure someone will.

Yeah, we can't go after any amnestied players with much confidence since under-salary-cap teams get first crack at those players.

Now, what I don't know is if the same rule applies for players that have been bought out. Do bought out players become free agents who are able to go wherever they want? If so, then maybe Rashard Lewis for some spot up shooting that Nash can create for him?

If the Mavs get him, it will not be in the first phase of waiver claims, because doing so would cause Dallas give up their TE's, MLE's, and ability to amnesty a bad contract his year under new CBA rules.

They need something else to trade for Dwight.
