I know bynum came into last season in the best shape of his career, but do you guys think bynum should lose some excess pounds next season by losing some muscle mass, but at the same time strengthening his core so he can still hold his own again other post players. this would allow him to run a little more, get back on D faster, and be more agile in the pick and roll
Or do you guys think his major advantage right now is his monstrous size and strength, and that he should keep it in order to keep his dominance.

Bynum slimmed down last year, this year he just needs to work on conditioning and getting his knees right for the season. He did, or is going to Germany to get the treatment Kobe got.

As long as the weight doesn't affect his mobility or speed he should be fine. Most of the issue with him not hustling is because of his laziness and lack of motivation.

And I think his laziness and lack of motivation comes from the fact that he's thinks hes the #1 option but is playing as the #2 option and sometimes #3.

Agreed. His girth at this moment is overkill. He'd be looking like T-Rex against most of these teams even with less bulk. The best he ever looked, imo, was in 2008 at a lesser weight...before the dislocated kneecap from hell happened, that is:

He's too plodding now and teams are zoning and sending doubles and triples at him consistently because he's not the best at passing back out (made Shaq look like the master of that skill). He also had a hard time finding open teammates when he wanted to pass because of the stagnant malaria swamp offense that featured little to no movement. It's not like he's facing Ewing or Shaq every night in classic 1:1 battles any more.

I like the fact that hes too big for most teams to deal with but it would be nice if he could move a bit faster....

I don't think that's necessarily true...
The first thing to go when you have a knee injury is mobility... You aren't going to be changing directions as fast as before... Add to that a huge-ass brace with a neoprene skin around it, and you aren't going to be blowing by anyone... Especially if you're 7' tall.
I think some conditioning might help Bynum get around the floor a little faster, but with what he's dealing with on his knees, I don't think you're going to see a whole lot quicker movement out of him.
Which isn't that big a deal now that we have Nash...
For people that were around to watch Showtime, the Lakers actually ran 2 offenses at once... One was the long, half-court offense anchored by 7' 2" Kareem, the other was the small-ball lineup with Magic and worthy and an agile tweener big like Rambis or someone who could run the floor and clean up rebounds... Because Kap wasn't getting down the floor anytime soon...
So Magic would get out on the break and try to score in the first 10sec, but if the Defense stopped them, Kap would get back and they'd adjust and run their half-court set for him.
With Nash, Kobe, _____, Pau on the court with Bynum, we could easily do that again. Run like hell and try to score quick, but if we get caught, reset for Bynum and pound the ball to him... The only problem is, Kap had a basically unguardable go-to move in the skyhook that he could go to with 5sec on the clock and score. Bynum is going to have to figure out that when he gets the ball, it's time to score and score now.
