I thought Worthy was a four.

This is the team I came up with on the GB:

tkb wrote:For the Lakers I'll go with this lineup (12 man rotation). I do think putting Nash in the team is kind of cheating since be hasnt played for us yet, but I fully expect him to make the team in 3 years. I'm also going to go twin towers since I think KAJ and Wilt could be effective together.

C - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar / Shaquille O'Neal / George Mikan
F - Wilt Chamberlain / Pau Gasol
F - Elgin Baylor / James Worthy
G - Kobe Bryant / Jerry West / Gail Goodrich
G - Magic Johnson / Steve Nash*

* Expected to make team in 3 years (next PG on the list is probably Norm Nixon).

If you can use players in their prime who played for the franchise, guys like Karl Malone, Gary Payton, Dennis Rodman, Glen Rice, Mitch Richmond, Bob McAdoo and others enter the discussion, tough many of them would only make our 2nd roster. Jamaal Wilkes gets a honorary mention.

Majority owner: Jerry Buss
GMs: Jerry West and Mitch Kupchak
Coaches: Phil Jackson and Pat Riley

Announcer: Chick Hearn

Not sure Vlade ever actually played PF for the Lakers :) And he's a career 11 pt/8 reb guy. So I'd move Pau up to first team, and on the bench I'd have the PF from the best team in NBA history (72 Lakers) - Happy Hairston - a career 14pt/11 reb PF.

And a matter of personal taste at bench SF - the 17.6pt/5reb and 3 NBA title Worthy, or the 17.7pt/6reb 3 NBA title Jamaal Wilkes. Not as flashy, but I prefer Wilkes.

Also love Norm Nixon - but if you're listing West as an SG, then that means his running mate in the backcourt, Gail Goodrich, needs to be considered a PG, no? Stumpy's Laker string of seasons of 25.9, 23.9, 25.3, 22.6, & 19.5 pts with 4.5, 4.4, 5.2, 5.8 &5.6 Assists, outweighs Norms 6 years of 13, 17, 17, 17, 17 & 15 for me.

I'm basing my players on their accomplishments AS Lakers. Hence Kareem over Wilt & Shaq is a no-brainer (he might still get my nod for full career too, but that's a tougher decision). But there have been other GREAT players who were Lakers - just that their greatness came bundled with a LOT of accomplishment elsewhere. Bob McAdoo. Spencer Haywood, Maurice Lucas, Bill Bridges, Jim Chones - all would be better PF choices for 2nd team IF career performance rather than Laker performance is considered. And the career 24.4 pt 5.8 reb Adrian Dantley might slip in at SF (he gave us 20pts/7rebs his two seasons at the Forum)...

I'd put Nick Van Exel (along with Goodrich) slightly above Norm Nixon, if it was me... But other than that, good lists so far.

I agree Goodrich @ point. Just think Mikan and wilt are 3rd and 4th team. Lakers have been blessed with great players. If u think about it they have been the most consistent team over the years with a championship in every decade but 2. Finals appearance in every decade! In addition 3 lakers have over 20,000 pts all in one uniform. 4 of the top 10 centers in history have played for Lakers best point guard 2 of top 3 shooting guards.

It's great to have a team where this task is so hard :D
Wasn't Wilt Chamberlain a center - you know, the one with 100 points in a game?
How do you then choose 2 out of Wilt, Kareem and Shaq? I'll go with the first 2...

Wilt only played for the Lakers for 5 years at the end of his career though (4 healthy seasons and one season he only played 12 games). All his major records and what not were set while he played for other teams, except the longest winning streak in NBA history when the Lakers won 33 straight.

Strictly as a Laker, Shaq rates higher than Wilt IMO though neither of them touches KAJ.

Same way the 22ppg 9 reb Bob McAdoo isn't our all time greatest PF. Or the 20.3/10.3 Spencer Haywood. Or the . None were the offensive greats they once were by the time they joined the lakers. Wilt with years of 20, 20, 14 and 13 ppg, McAdoo with 15, 16, 11 and 10. Altho Wilts never-diminishing rebound skills make it a very close decsion for me - 19 1/2 boards a game for 5 years as a Laker.
