Jim Buss: 'I'm very disappointed in the season'

XXIV wrote:I'm more annoyed of the fact that he is blinded by his own ego, and it appears he would rather risk the success of the team than admit/fix his mistakes.

NBAontwitter wrote:Jim Buss is a f ing disaster. Disappointed? You trade the 2 most emotional talkative leaders. You kept no continuity in the coachhing staff. Your free agent moves were Kapono, Murphy and Mcbob,

Sometimes i think winning makes people bored. Just like being rich makes rich people bored. So they want to prove they can with their own method. Now we have to be patient and let Jimmy fail and fail.

Mamba Venom wrote:I'm disappointed that Jim Buss is running the show and not Jerry Buss.

I still don't believe in him and I think this season showed that Jim is not ready to build a championship team. He will get there in 5 years, but its not fair to Kobe.

The league f----d us due to the timing of the announcement. It's not Jim's fault, but if it happened literally a few days later the trade goes through. Jim Buss sticking up for Mike Brown kills all my faith in him.

I hope that doesn't reassure you.

Jerry Buss's best attribute as an owner was letting his basketball people make decisions. He wanted to trade James Worthy, but Jerry West talked him out of it.

Unfortunately, there is no Jerry West. There's only Jim Buss, and God help us.

milesfides wrote:Oh, what a dream it would have been, had Phil and Jeannie moved into the front office, Shaw been promoted to coach, and Bynum been traded for ballers. It would have felt so right. :violin:

i won't even go much further into that thread, too many posts to quote, all i'll say is that there is a long line waiting for crow in that thread

Kupchak: Jim Buss deserves less criticism, more credit

DrewBynum77 wrote:who writes kupcake checks?

I'll stop worrying when he does something good for the lakers and hiring a bartender to replace one of th best scouts in the league isn't a good sign nor turning the 6poy into nothing.

Jim Buss is going to run this team into the ground.

numbas wrote:Mitch has a small chance to save it but, I dont see a bright future
He isn't the biggest fan of Kobe and I see him possibly not wanting to resign Kobe in 2 years when his contracts up
And it looks like he will not trade bynum just gasol for a superstar cuz its HIS guy

Jim Buss says itd be silly to trade both for Howard

this one is a gem if u can get through it

kblo247 wrote:Problems with what he said

- We don't have three all stars, we have two

If you are going to call Bynum a title he hasn't come close to earni in his career, mother you need to say we traded an all star away for nothing at all as Odom was flat out better than him the past couples, did more to win the ring, and produced more than Luc Longley like numbers when it mattered.

- Trading both Pau and Andrew for Dwight is silly

Who are we fooling? That is fair value. Pau and Andrew have never played well together on both ends for a prolonged period because they are both centers who needed Odom to compliment them. They never gained a two man game on either side the floor. Dwight is flat out better than the often injury prone big and guy coming off one of the worst playoff showings on bth sides the floor for a 20 million dollar player ever. It just is.

- Odom was gone mentally and had to be given away

Please, Odom has even stated he was pissed off because Jim would not tell him the same thing he told Pau. He would be a Laker, he might hear offers that improve the team, but he will be a Laker short of trading him for a certain type of players. Lamar has said that was what Jim told him he couldn't say. You got caught being unprofessional and bush league yet again as management like this whole summer, with Shaw, Lester, and many other people. Lamar heard he got dealt on the radio, you didn't even call him to talk out the situation, and he had to come to you and you couldn't even give a white lie like did Pau. You wanted him gone to give the pet project his chance to swim or sink is all. Either Byum steps up and proves he is worth an extension or ups his value to be flipped for Dwight, or he gets hurt like he always ahs back to high school and underachieves yet again, lowers his value, and LA looks like dumbasses when they have no one there to fill in for him without skipping a beat

Odom even said admittedly by the Mavs that you guys AE going to have them gunning for you, in reference to Dallas playing Miami. He didn't say we and had to be reminded that he wasn't a Laker anymore, and still says his heart will always have a place in LA and that having a Mavs jersey is weird

- Valuing picks

Please with that as well. You will sell those firsts to the highest bidder and get seconds so you don't have to have cap holds or give out guaranteed contracts.

there's so many more posts and threads to find/quote, but damn is jim buss vindicated any way you want to cut it.

Well I was ready to eat some crow, but I can't find anything bad that I've said in recent years.

semi-sentient wrote:Pretty good interview. I've traditionally called him names but he sounds like he knows what he's doing, and he deserves a chance just like any other newcomer.

If they aren't considering any amnesties then it looks like they aren't concerned with their salary situation, which hopefully means we'll make good use of our TPE.

He's right about Odom as well. He checked out mentally and dealt with it in a very unprofessional manner. I still think we should have held on to him and offered a Bynum + Odom package for Howard, but oh well. What's done is done.

another gem from nbaontwitter, this one he attacks the entire buss family

Its time for the Buss family to sell the team

NBAontwitter wrote:Its obvious they can't afford it anymore. They can't paying the punitive tax. Lakers are a brand, You can't put out a bench of Kapano, Mcroberts, Murphy, Blake, Glock, Morris and Barnes.

Sooner or later Kobe is going to see Michael Jordan and Wilt couldn't win with this team in their prime.

And it sounds like they are going to trade Gasol for cap room. So not only will they have a big 3 anymore. They will have a big 2, and no bench.

Also the poor coaching doesn't help.

Its time to sell. When you can't afford something, sell it. They held it down long enough. The new NBA rules messed everything up.

once Kobe is not elite anymore, this Lakers team is going to be worst then its ever been. Pre Kareem days and post 72. No superstars, and just praying to strike it rich in the draft.

i am praying it doesn't come to that.

Glad I didnt jump in on the thread for 2 reasons.

1. MONEY. We are in the money now with that new LAKER/TV contract and that should assist our tax situation.

2. MIKE BROWN. Ive always felt it was on his back and still do. Our front office has experience with Kupchak working several years under Jerry West. Add that folks naturally want to play here. HOWEVER, THE COACH needs to step up his game! We are providing top notch talent and a contending squad! Step up your A-game Brown, it is now time to deliver the next championship banner!

I think with the way Jimmy started to become more and more a leader in the front office and not being vocal and visable at a time we were floundering it is typical for the fans to get a bit perturbed to say the least. So looking back i dont have a problem with most around here voicing discontent during that time.

But i think you will all agree when Jimmy came out and started speaking and letting us see his blonde locks we finally were officially introduced to the man sitting at the helm of our gloried and heralded franchise.

It's the type of grassroots mumbling and rumbling like what happened here that got him to come out of his shell a bit and if anything all of you that were down on him perhaps nudged him to do just that.

With that said i always said we just dont know whats going on up there and thats what i was pissed about. But yes with the moves just this summer he should feel very vindicated. Also keep in mind he will never please all the people all the time, not today and not in 15 years regardless of moves made or not made.

"We pay to see the games and he gets paid to see the games"

I mean, the d12 saga was boring as hell... Finally we closed the deal. Now we can discuss 'basketball' again.

I couldn't read anything related to that trade anymore.

I didn't like Jim one bit until I heard him speak on an interview he did i think on the radio. It was easier to understand that he quite possibly wasn't sold on giving this team to Bynum once Kobe was over. That gave me a sense of relief since I've been using, In JiMitch we trust. 8-)

I was a big hater back when all that talk was going around about him being born on third base, esp after the Mike Brown hiring

At this point in the offseason, I've got absolute confidence in him and can name 20 guys in charge of basketball operations that make him look like Albert Einstein

Can't wait for the season to start
