Steve Nash, Dwight Howard, Pick N Roll

Last year, on a team where Marcin Gortat was the second-best player on the team and the rest of the roster was at best inconsistent and at worst a hot mess, Steve Nash‘s passes out of the pick and roll lead to scoring 59.5% of the time, which was best among players with 100 possessions, according to Synergy Sports. So he was literally the best pick and roll passer in the leauge.
Last year, on a team where Jameer Nelson had injury issues, the entire team has chemistry problems related to the ongoing drama, and the offense was primarily geared around perimeter shooters (oh, and he was injured), Dwight Howard scored as the pick and roll man 73.7% of the time, which was best in the league.
So they have literally paired the best pick and roll passing guard with the best pick and roll finisher in the league

And on top of that, we STILL have Kobe and Pau... here's hoping they can all get along on and off the court....

Mike Brown is a smart man. via wiretap:
Mike Brown will give Steve Nash the freedom to direct the Lakers offense on the fly.
“The way that we’ll put it together, Steve’s going to have an opportunity -- he’s going to quarterback the team -- and so he’s going to have an opportunity to come down the floor every possession and in early offense play pick-and-roll if he wants to,” Brown said. “It’s up to him, based on where he decides to take the ball or a call that he makes or an action that he does, it’s up to him to get us into some of the looks of the Princeton offense.
“So again, with him quarterbacking, or making that decision, he’ll still have a chance to get the ball back after he moves or after bodies move. I don’t want to completely give away what we’re trying to do, but in a nutshell, he will have an opportunity to play pick-and-roll at the beginning of almost every play set coming down the floor in early offense. And if not, he can also choose to get to some of the looks out of the Princeton by making a pass or doing an action or doing a call or whatever.”
Nash’s teams in Phoenix and Dallas led the league in offensive efficiency for nine straight seasons from 2001-02 to 2009-10.
The Lakers slipped to 10th in offensive efficiency last season.
in short. run any **** offense you want Steve.

I heard about the stat on the radio the other day so I thought I would see if I could find an article about it. I had no idea D12 was that dominate in the PnR. Crazy I tell ya, just crazy. And of course we already knew about Nash and his PnR talents.

Can't believe people can claim a guy who is #1 in his position at scoring off the pick and roll is limited offensively

One of the vids had Metta getting a pass from nash and immediately feeding it to Kobe.
anyway great video! Super informative. Great point about Lebron doing his worst against Orlando, then pointing out it wasn't because of Ryan anderson's D..

This guy is pretty cool. He use to be a kobe hater, but he's laid back once his channel got business. He's also a huge bulls fan.

So does the defense leave Kobe and Gasol open to focus on the best pick and roll combo?

Nash and Kobe too because the team will stay in he penalty and they for once won't have to be th guys to get the opponent thee by taking a pounding. They will be rewarded from hack a Dwight

yup! love it, howard will distort the opponents game plan by forcing them to foul him. Early penalty means ft's later for nash/kb

. Im not to concern about our bench at this point, long as we have a nice mix of kb/howard or nash/pau on the floor at all times that should be plenty. Hopefully they all play around 29-32 mins a piece.
