Duhon vs Blake

by what would jack bauer do?
Just wondering who you guys think will be our backup pg this year. I know the initial response has been Blake, but let's think about it for a second. Blake is 32 now and he hasn't given us anything on either end of the floor for two years. Duhon is 30 years old, but his career has been plagued by his bad back. He had back surgery in Chicago... When he got to New York he logged starters minutes and averaged around 12 and 9 for half the season, then came reports of his back injury being aggravated.
As a floor general I give the nod to Duhon, as a pg that'll create opportunities for other players it's Duhon again. As a ballhandler Blake hasn't been able to penetrate more than 2 feet inside the 3pt line since he came to LA. Defensively it used to be Blake maybe 5 years ago, now I'm not too sure. The better shooter is maybe Blake but he's shown diminishing confidence the last couple years. Duhon in the past has shown he can step up and lead a team with confidence.
Blake's vs Duhon career stats:
PPG: 6.9 v 6.8
FG%: 40.4% v 39.4%
3pt%: 38.7% v 36.3%
Ast: 3.9 vs 4.6
TO's: 1.38 v 1.58
mpg: 24.8 v 26.3
I'm hoping Duhon comes in in shape and healthy cause IMO he'll take the spot from Blake. If not buy him out and sign Johnson-Odom.

I like DJO, he's young, athletic, he can shoot (well he could in college) and he's a good defender. I especially like the strength advantage he'll have on every PG in the league on Defense it will be a bit like being guarded by MWP (and he looks a bit liek him to)

While Blake and Duhon arent good players they are serviceable and know the game. DJO and Goudelock arent PG's and I would not want either playing the point off the bench. I think guys need to give Blake a break. The problem with him is that he has been the quasi starter since being in LA and really isnt a starting caliber PG so he always sticks out. With Nash he can finally be a true bench player and produce against real benches instead of expecting to produce decent numbers against the elite.

Battle of the Turds, we will be in really big trouble if Nash gets hurt (knock on wood)

Blake will be.
1. He knows more
2. He's on the less tradeable contract.
3. Duhon has a partially guaranteed contract next year, making him prime trade and waive fodder.

I could easily see Duhon outplaying Blake during the preseason and earning Brown's trust.
I think Duhon may be steadier at the position.
Here's to hoping a young gun surprises us, however!!

Anything Duhon does to earn playing time helps him get traded for a smaller/shorter contract

How much smaller and shorter do you think a contract we can get the guy makes 3 mil this year 1.5(sp) next year. sure maybe he can turn into an expiring contract but at this point it would be better to hold onto that contract for trading reasons during the draft.
Only way we trade a Duhon for an expiring contract if he builds up value is if we get a 1st with it.... The Lakers are in win now and Duhon's contract is not a problem its Blake who we could have anmisted and saved over 8 Million over the next 2 year instead we held onto him so Lakers are not planning to go cheap.

You do NOT want Duhon to play even a single minute.

getting an expiring this year for duhon means we're not paying:
1. his 1.5mil next year
2. 1.5 mil x 3.25 (or whatever the highest tax bracket is), thats another 5 mil saved
and we're most definitely saving the amnesty for MWP's 7.8 mil to save another 20+ mil in LT
we get a chance to save money, by golly we're doing it
