Could we use a stretch 4 or a defensive monster

Post#1 » by TarktheShark » Fri Sep 14, 2012 4:48 pm

We all know Dwight is going to be our focal point in the post. He is just to dominant in the low post. Gasol again will be playing the elbow. Questions remain if Gasol is declining. Nash may make life easier via pick and roll and open looks. Gasol is a streaky mid range shooter, slow more of a center, his strength is his post game. He also will be the 4th option. Would you guys rather have a monster on the boards and defensive

ALA
Josh Smith

Or a stretch 4 who is a deadly shooter all the way to 3 point range. Look how much Ryan Anderson career took off playing next to Dwight. He allowed Dwight to do work in the paint, and Anderson spaced the floor for the 3 point ball...

Guys that come to mind
Gallinari
Andrea Bargnani
Ersan Ilyasova

our starter line up could use more quickness, and athletic ability .. Gasol checked out two playoffs in a row, is expensive and was lock down by Lebron this summer

Gasol is still an amazing player but I'd be lieing if i said i wouldn't think about replacing him with Josh Smith he's younger, much more athletic, a great defender and really good friends with Dwight. It would have to be Josh Smith for me though if we couldn't get him keep Pau....

Lakers have Nash this season. This is the reason why they are keeping Gasol, because Nash will make it easier for him, he can pick and roll or pick and pop with Nash, Gasol game should be better

Kobe and Gasol contract end in a couple of years. I think the Lakers FO is looking at the big picture 2 years from now, and win now and be in good position cap wise in the future.

I would trade Gasol for Josh Smith, but of course the Hawks wouldn't, so it's not really an option.

Imagine Josh Smith, World Peace and Dwight on defensive 0.o

Imagine if we were able to have the Hawks throw in a 3pt sniper in
Anthony Morrow or Kyler Korver for our bench too 0.o

Obviously it wouldn't be a straight swap but if anyone could find a way to make this happen it's Mitch :D

the Hawks should do it... Smith is not a go to scorer neither is Hortford... Hortford is more a 4 then a center, and Gasol has one of the best post games in the NBA... Hawks need to do something because every year they are a first round out

Gasol Hortford
Hortford makes more sense then Smith

Antwan Jamison is one of the best stretch 4s of all-time.

I think we are set at 2, 4 and 5... We may be fine at the 3 too... It depends on how MWP, AJ, and Ebanks figure things out...

What we really need is a quick, athletic defensive 1 that can hit a jump shot once and a while...

Length would be nice too... Basically Steve Blake like 4-5 seasons ago.

I agree we could do with a decent backup 1. We also have Clark at the 3 and he's pretty good.

 That's basically how I feel too but didn't want to say it because I thought I was being too harsh on Smith...

josh smith is, for me, the prime example of a player whose game i totally despise. throw in chucker demarcus cousins and i'd have to stop rooting for the lakers.

Yeah... I despise Cousins... I don't dislike Smith nearly that much, but there would have to be a hell of a lot more coming back in return for me to trade Pau for him...
And I actually wouldn't be opposed to trading Pau... Part of me isn't entirely convinced Pau/Dwight will work any better than Pau/Bynum did... But the potential is there.

Not sure why guys keep bringing up a Pau for Smith trade. There is little incentive for ATL to do this. Smith is younger and cheaper. Pau isnt going to put them over the top so trading for him at 19 mil and 32 years of age isnt going to help them. Notice how once Joe Johnson was traded alot of that J Smith trade stuff died down. He isnt going anywhere.
