The NBA is eliminating the center position from the All-Star ballot, allowing fans to vote for three "frontcourt" players.

"It makes sense," Stu Jackson said. "It made sense to our Competition Committee. Having a center is the only specific position that was singled out on the ballot. It just seemed a little outdated and didn't represent the way our game has evolved. By the same token, it also affords the same opportunity, if you have two good centers in a given year, pick 'em both. They both can be selected. Which is impossible right now."

The definition of the center position has become difficult in recent seasons.

It was becoming obvious this would happen. I remember the one year Amare was listed on the Ballot as center and he ended up getting more votes than Bynum.

probably not that good for Dwight and even more for the likes of Bynum.

Before we were forced to vote on a center which boosted their numbers.

I like it. There was a huge drop off from Bynum last year. And to be honest, this wont change the votes dwight may get this year. He will still be starting if he is healthy. Just without the label of being the center.

It's deeper than that. Watch & see. One day soon a Center that is dominating his position will be left off the team vote wise & the coach will have to pick him as a reserve.

The obvious point behind doing this is to have the All-Star game a run & gun hog wild fest

And in the past guys have been getting left off the starters when listed at F even though they play PF/C, and getting a crap center voted in over them.

This way is better cuz you can vote the best 3 Fs, or in the future if we have centers, the best 3 centers.

It's not like all of a sudden snubs will happen like they never have before.

How is this bad for Dwight he will still be an all star starter we know Durant and Griffin will get alot of votes as front court players there really isnt anyone in the west to block Dwight from being a starter. Love and Aldridge are the only 2 I cant think of but they come from smaller markets they wont get as many votes as Dwight. And no one can really consider Dirk an all star starter anymore maybe off the bench.

Dirk won't be an all star this year. He's hurt and he doesn't know when he'll be back, and I don't see him playing at some all-star level above other Western Forwards after the surgery. Only thing maybe is coaches might vote him in for his final ASG knowing he's done, but that's about it, he won't earn it

There will always be snubs bruh i get that, but let the positions be. All the tweaking is unnecessary. So what next? Damn all the positions & just let it fly wild?

Down with that, let the best players be allowed to get in. Less snubs that way

Lol you probably are down with that. So it becomes even more of a popularity contest

It's already a popularity contest, all 10 starters are already being voted on.. losing positions doesn't make it any more of a popularity contest. It might even help more deserving guys start.

Last year, east starters were Rose/Wade, Lebron/Melo, Dwight. With no positions, 4 of those guys would make it and perhaps Rondo would make it over Melo, and many were saying Rondo is more deserving.

I just don't see where it makes it any more of a popularity contest.. a guy like Yao was making it before and would still make it now.

Dwight won't really have a problem. He will get the same amount of votes of Durant and Blake. Bynum is the one that could be kissing goodbye to the starter spot.

Decent idea, but would make more sense with 2 front court and 3 back court players since that's the way the game is played

Yep. Lebron, Bosh, Smith, Melo, Garnett, Pierce.. I think they all have a bigger shot of getting in already. I hope Josh Smith makes it this year
