Goudelock? Is lack of size a good excuse not to play him?
Goudelock is clearly a better scorer than Ebanks, Meeks, Blake and Duhon. All preseason he has never gotten the opportunity to play in the same lineup with Nash, Kobe, Gasol.
It would be interesting to see what this kid could do playing next to superstars. He wouldn't have to worry about creating off the dribble. Just catch and shoot, or catch and have the defender coming at him because the defender was just double teaming a starter. He can drill the three or pump fake, go inside and finish with the floater

Re: Goudelock? Is lack of size a good excuse not to play him
That's what I don't like about these games.. we're supposed to see what we're working with. If he sucks, he sucks. But play DJO more than the last 5min. Play Glock along with the starters to see if he can shine when no one focuses on him, don't play him with 3rd stringers where he has to handle more and take his man off the dribble.
Preseason wins don't count, make preseason count not only by seeing how our new offense looks, but also finding out if players can play in different roles and with the starters

That's Mike Brown for ya, he has done no adjustments in plays and not trying out new rotations/players just as other teams would in pre-season.

Yes, it is.
But also a lack of consistency and raw talent is a pretty good reason as well.

G-Lock, CDR, DJO may be torching the Lakers this season if they all get cut and picked up by other teams.
I really can't justify Brown. I agree with all Ima said. initially I thought coaching staff was testing if they can rise above other scrubs but apparently that's not the case (i.e. CDR).

Its really weird, because Mike Brown really loving Bobby (basically the same player like Goudelock now), even in his rookie year.

you mean Boobie? yeah, mind boggling. probably difference is Gibson's defense and he really had no choice back then.

Re: Goudelock? Is lack of size a good excuse not to play him
I'm not sure what sample-size of play you all are referencing to justify the idea that Goudelock or DJO or Morris should see anything but D-League minutes...
We are a team with 4 potential hall of famers... And 6 all-stars with Jamison and MWP...
We are a win-now team, not a development team.
And that said, Sacre is our work in progress.... We don't need any others.
We need to move these guys to a team that can actually use them.

Glock got some killer instinct in him. I think he can play well for the Lakers off the bench with certain matchups.
I want Glock over Morris

Re: Goudelock? Is lack of size a good excuse not to play him
G-Lock was arguably our best scorer off the bench for us last season and Morris might be in the running for the worst player on the team last year. Yet Morris got a contract but G-lock didn't

Because they arent competing for the same position. How many times does this need to be explained to guys on this board? Morris is a PG and GLock is an undersized SG. There is little value in an undersized that cant play defense. Glock is an ok offensive talent but dude shot 39 percent from the field. Thats almost as bad as Kemba Walker. The dude just isnt good outside of hitting a wide open shot and plenty of guys can do that.

Re: Goudelock? Is lack of size a good excuse not to play him

37% without Kobe (most of his minutes), 50% with Kobe (50% from 3 even).
Sure they technically play the same position, but play Kobe at the 3 with him or play him at the 1 where Kobe is the primary ballhandler and he does his job.. guys like this aren't meant to do it all from the bench, they're most effective when playing next to that elite player that frees them up and lets them shine. Wish he got more time next to Kobe instead of thinking he's some amazing bench scorer on his own

Re: Goudelock? Is lack of size a good excuse not to play him
The reason G-Lock gets no burn to my understanding is that he plays no defense. Im sure Mike Brown has conveyed that message to him. Its on him to up his game to be effective on both ends of the floor. As laker fans if he does this then we are #winning! In all seriousness if MB has gotten on him about his defense and G-Lock doesnt put forth the effort to improve, what is MB suppose to do? As a fan though the guy can flat out shoot. As a coach though MB cannot come across desperate for a shooter. Especially not for a guy in his second year.

I don't disagree with anything you're saying Big Game but its hard for me to hear that when Blake constantly gets PT & usually does more harm than good.

Undersized SG isn't a position. Why can't you just say SG? Morris is an underbrained pg just the same way goudelock is an undersized pg. And just like you can't teach size, you can't teach understanding the game either. The kid just doesn't have it.
When did it become a requirement to play defense to play off the bench for the Lakers? We haven't had a player who could defend off the bench since the shaq/kobe threepeat team. I guess Matt Barnes is the only one , and Ariza, but he was really the starter during his prime time here.
Guess who else shot 39% last year? STEVE BLAKE. Why didn't we bench him in favor of Morris?
Everytime I see goudelocke critcism, I see people applying a double standard to him and not applying the same for other Lakers bench players. They don't need to be the same position to share minutes. In miami you have Battier backing up Lebron sometimes, sometimes its chalmers, and sometimes its even Joel Anthony. Since when do you need to be the same position to eat into someone elses minutes?
Can Jordan Farmar play defense? wasn't he getting serious minutes on a team that won titles? It's proven time and time again, you can win championships with bench players who give you boosts in offense despite their defensive flaws. We have Ron Artest , Kobe, Pau and Dwight howard. Do we really need our backup sg to be a good defender if he can score buckets? I'd say the Lakers biggest problem when the bench comes in this year will be the offense, not the defense. Our bench isn't going to stop anyone, I think we should all give up that idea. But our bench has a chance at scoring a lot of points and maintaining our leads that way. We just don't have the personal on the bench to make serious stops..thats why I think the bench should be up tempo and play to our strengths of the personal that we have.

Re: Goudelock? Is lack of size a good excuse not to play him
I think Goudelock gets a bad rap on his defense. During the preseason he showed a lot of improvement in fighting to stay over top of the screen and staying in front of his man. He was actually pressing the opposing PG when he got opportunities to play.
Last night he got beat on a back door cut, but the players ahead of him got beat like 5, 6, 7, 8 times.

Looks like he will make the team, barring the Lakers making other moves like Delonte West

The Lakers waived Andrew Goudelock, who appeared in 40 games last year towards 4.4 ppg, today. Roster stands at 15.
