Sheridan Hoops - Tweet of the Night

@KrisHumphries

It's strange watching Steve Nash play off the ball so much.

Brooklyn Nets power forward Kris Humphries noticed something that many Suns fans – fans in general, actually – may have noticed in the Lakers first game of the season against the Mavericks on opening night: Steve Nash was hardly noticeable half the time, except when the opposition was repeatedly scoring on him.

This is certainly not what we expected when news broke over the summer that Nash was headed to Los Angeles. This is not why Chris Sheridan thought this team would win more than 72 games. It’s safe to say that most of us are accustomed to watching the two-time MVP dominate games by controlling the offense as he sees fit. With so much talent on the team, it was assumed that someone of Nash’s caliber would average 10 assists in his sleep. Certainly, we are seeing that that won’t be the case anytime soon.

Stranger still is I can foresee Humphries coaching after a long NBA playing career.

In fairness, most people should be aware that Nash playing off the ball isn't the best idea.

Shocking insight from someone with such questionable judgement.

He is dead on though, why bother with Nash if you are not even using him right. Not to mention Brown is going to burn him out minutes wise.

i agree with Run-MKE....there's no point in paying a future hall of gamer 9 million dollars a year if you're not going to use him the way he plays the game.
we would have been better off with kirk hinrich.
steve nash mush be pretty unhappy about this too

where did nash havin the ball all the time get him with the suns???? exactly ..Nash ball gets a lot of easy wins - hasn't landed any titles - and Nash is looking for more than what he's done in the past nash has the freedom to do what he wants with the ball ""Steve has the ability to do Steve" "He can do that whenever he wants or he can get us into offense" - Mike Brown on Steve Nash" MB ... Steve wants to learn the offense

The fact that Nash didn't win a championship that way doesn't necessarily mean that it was a bad decision all those years to put the ball in his hands. After all, he built quite a decent career doing it that way. Also, keep in mind that only one team per year wins the championship.

just cause nash is playing off the ball so much right now doesn't mean its always going to be like that. getting that princeton offense working like a well oiled machine is going to take time and repetition. unfortunately for now that means less nash, but better to get it worked out now than later.

strange indeed. But thats why hes been out in purgatory called phoenix basketball. I dont know if this "princeton" stuff is goin to work, but everyone is on the clock here. Coach Brown. Nash. Kobe. They dont get it done, changes will be made, thats how it works! But with that said, I say lets wait and see how it all unfolds.

Miami fan here. I have been following this forum since pre-Dwight and looked forward to the "super team" assembled. However, this is like deja vu of the big-3 coming together.

Bottom Line: It will take some time to come together, but the Lakers are gonna be a great team. I think the preseason injuries your team has been fighting through has created a similar situation to last year's lock out. That situation being a lack of quality practice and time together as a unit before the season began.

Im just as curious to see how the Princeton offense is going to develop, but this team has so much athleticism and basketball IQ, barring injuries i can only see one way to go.

I know most people wont like this idea, but bring in Mike D'! He has flurished with Nash as his point guard. With a kobe and Dwight and Gasol he has a better team than he did when it was joe johnson, marion, richardson, and STAT. Run that offense!!!!!! Gasol can run, cause he did with spain. Kobe is kobe, and well Dwight is Dwight!!!!

Complicated offensive schemes sometimes require a couple of seasons of the core players being together in order to work just right. However, if the Lakers could operate as fluidly as the Kings did in this system, then they're going to be unstoppable.

The issue is that this offense essentially makes Pau Gasol the centerpiece just like Webber was in Sacramento. And that doesn't make sense on a team with Nash, Kobe, and especially Dwight. You should play an offense that fits your teams strength and this teams strength should be a huge Pick and roll game.
