Noooo!!! Metta World Peace will be the back-up SG!

Metta World Peace will get minutes at shooting guard, Lakers Coach Mike Brown said.

"That's going to be my second unit," said Brown. "Metta will be the two, [Antawn] Jamison is the three, [Jordan] Hill is the four and [Dwight] Howard or Pau [Gasol] is going to be the five."

Brown experimented on Sunday against the Detroit Pistons with a lineup featuring Howard at center and Darius Morris running the point along with Hill, Jamison and World Peace.

In their second-quarter run of about three minutes, the group was able to extend the Lakers' lead by 3 points.

Devin Ebanks will remain in the rotation at shooting guard and small forward, as Brown looks for minutes to rest both Kobe Bryant and World Peace. For now, Jodie Meeks and veteran Chris Duhon, are unlikely to get significant minutes.

"I've got to give my bench a chance, because right now I really haven't. I've been messing around with it too much trying to search for combinations," said Brown. "Now that I've found a combination that I think I want to roll with it a little bit, let's give them a chance to see how they play before making another change."

With the 6-foot-7 World Peace at shooting guard, the Lakers will have a sizable lineup featuring Morris (6-4), Jamison (6-9), Hill (6-10) and Howard (6-11). When Gasol (7 feet) rotates in instead of Howard, the Lakers are even taller.

The Lakers started the season 0-3 but finally got their first win over the struggling Detroit Pistons. They may have a bigger challenge on Wednesday night against the Utah Jazz.

MWP is now the designated back-up SG simply based on 1 experimental game against Detroit???

Morris and MWP in the back court???

:o

Defensively it will be interesting to see what Metta, Hill, and D12 can do.

Actually it's make more sense than playing 2 pgs in the same time (for Lakers current situation).

Is Jodie Meeks that bad?

Can't do no worse than Jamison coming off the bench so far.

WTF!

Is he even aware of spacing issues? This "bench" he's throwing out there is going to such a detriment our starters will be forced to play huge minutes this season. Antwan Jamison has never been a Small Forward. Ron Artest is not a Shooting Guard. Jordan Hill is not a Power Forward. Why the hell can't he throw a lineup of Hill-Jamison-Ebanks-Meeks-Nash (or something similar to it).

Yep, he is making it very easy for the other to play defense.
I mean, seriously? Blake/Metta/Jamison/Hill/Dwight? Just camp in the lane and let us shoot from outside.

This all because he needs to justify why he said he won't give Meeks time just as he has to always defend why he keeps choosing Blake as the back up 2 guard.

I can see Jerry Sloan already on a plane to LA to have a chat with Jim and Jerry about that potential head coaching vacancy

I don't see a problem with it truthfully. When you think of the back up 2's of the league MW can stay with some, also on the offensive end they're gonna have trouble keeping him off the block if we send him there. Also Twan at the 3 isn't so bad, guys here complaining that he's never been a 3.....that's moot at this stage of his career. He doesn't have the size to contain the 4's of today, which all they do is over stretch the floor. This takes AJ away from the basket way too far for rebounds.

What Mike is doing is making teams adjust to playing against a bigger 2nd unit, it's not as fast but having 3 starters on the floor then switching to 2 will keep us in games. It's not like they'll play the whole 12 minutes anyway, 5 to 6 minutes is all they'll play once you rotate it.

I genuinely believe that MB can swap out every starter with the 3rd string backups in reverse order (Sacre at point, Duhon at center... etc) and some dudes in here will find a way to justify it.
