Curious to see Mike Datoni Offense Now
After watching these last two Lakers game, clearly the Lakers have been playing a free flowing offense. As we can all see, it looks amazing and has worked wonders for them so far. If we can not get Phil Jackson, I really hope we get Mike Datoni because his offense with this team would look be something to seen.

He'd be a very easy adjustment. Darius Morris needs more playing time, he's not there yet but it wouldn't be far fetched to say he's better than Blake/Duhon.

Man after watching this game tonight, my order of coaches would be:
Phil
Datoni
Berni
I do not want any other coach besides one of these three. If we beat the Spurs on Tuesday with Bernie as head coach, frig it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it !

I don't think Bernie wants to be HC. It'd be hard for me to see that coming. But if our bench play under D'Antoni were anything like what we see under him now, it could work. The rap on D'Antoni though is the same thing that it was on Brown: he's a guy that loves tight rotations. Of course, all of them, from Brown to D'Antoni to Phil, favor tight rotations. But can you see this team keeping an 8-man lineup and holding tonight's pace all season long without injury? I'm skeptical as to whether they can, without making a few more trades.

8 man no, 9 man yes. Even Brown was playing 9 man with Jamison, Ebanks, Hill, and Blake.
I'd go Morris, sign Josh Howard/drop Devin Ebanks, Jamison, Hill.

Re: Curious to see Mike Datoni Offense Now
Well, remember, in Brown's last two games with the Lakers, he had Metta sliding to the 2, logging 37mpg, Pau in there for 40, and Dwight at 38. As to whether D'Antoni or Phil would continue that practice, I think it's safe to say the answer is no. Phil, in his last year with us, still had 9 guys coming in and out of the game, but then, that bench still had Shannon and LO. D'Antoni's depth chart has historically been an "8.5" man, and I don't see him getting that much out of our bench with just Morris, Meeks, Hill, and Jamison.
Acquiring Howard might not be a bad idea. They might even take a second look at West. It's all in pencil atm.

You have to stagger the lineup. There's no way they can have a bench crew but at some point having consistent bench players is invaluable. In 2010 the Lakers' rotation was excellent mainly because you knew it was going to be Farmar-Brown-Odom. Nobody else played for the most part except for short instances.
I'll tell you one interesting thing about Morris. His size could allow you to run him as the constant backup all along the perimeter. That'd be an easy way to get him seasoned although I don't want Kobe wearing down at SF.

Oh, no doubt. I totally agree. The way those lineups looked during the preseason, I almost forgot what it was like to see Kobe and Pau share the floor. Your idea about Morris is compelling, but you're right about wearing Kobe down at the 3. It's simply too early in the season, I think, for them to consider that. And I certainly wouldn't want them to try it unless they exhaust all other options to bring in someone else first.

Re: Curious to see Mike Datoni Offense Now
^A lot of people think that Meeks will thrive with Phil coming in but I disagree. Meeks can't pass well and he can't handle the ball well. While his shooting is a good aspect he makes some absolutely stupid decisions and really is limited to a shooter as well as pick and roll player with some craftiness to him.
In the triangle you want at least two guys that can bring up the ball. If Nash is out there along with Meeks you have only two guys. Even when Odom and Farmar were together the SG (Brown) or Vujajic had some PG experience or at least combo guard experience. Meeks is neither. For Meeks to play Kobe would have to be in at SF. That's why I'm not high on him being in the rotation. In D'Antoni's system it could work.
Now as far as Morris goes, how about moving him to SG if we're going to the triangle? Duhon will do well in the triangle as a new age Fisher, why not have Morris at 6-5, 200 with a nice wingspan become his sidekick.

Well, seeing as the purview of our discussion was D'Antoni's SSOL offense, and he's now our new HC, it should be interesting to see what personnel changes we might make.

Mickael Pietrus would not surprise me off the bench as the new wing.

Re: Curious to see Mike Datoni Offense Now
You know, this was one sounds like it was Jerry's call more than Jim's, actually. Mason and Ireland were laying it all out on their show the other day, with every reason why Vegas had D'Antoni as the favorite to succeed Brown, but I don't think many of us were going for it, especially after the last 24 hours almost disproved it.
With Mike, there is no doubt at all this time what he will be brought in to do, and there will without a doubt be some more changes coming to this team. Jerry always wanted a return to the Pat Riley days; well, it looks like he's got it.

as horrible as Metta can be on offense we cannot afford to let go of Defensive players right now.
