Dwight Hints at Not Returning

He basically says that if he doesn't think he can win with the Lakers come July, he's gone. I've heard some say that this quote was taken out of context, but....no it wasn't.
And while he said it upset him having to divorce himself from the Magic and the Orlando fan base, Howard, 26, said his decision to leave ultimately came to being where he thought he had the best chance to win. And Howard, who can become an unrestricted free agent in July, even hinted that if he didn’t think he could win in L.A., he would move on from Southern California in the summer.
``You only get one shot. People might not ever understand that, but at the end of the day it’s not their life. You can’t let anybody else dictate how they want your life to be,’’ he said. ``I only have one shot to play and do something that I love. Not everybody is blessed and have an opportunity to do what they love.
``So I want to do it the best that I can and I’m going to take everything in I can to get what I can out of the NBA. Which, for me, is winning a championship,’’ he added. ``So if I have to play on another team or do whatever I have to do to get one, that’s my goal. This is my passion, so I’ll continue to fight.’

watch the interview and look at what the question is and what his answers are about. the article was poted yesterday but just a reporter twsting his words & stirring the pot to add drama to the LA scene. if you read the link it says "Dwight Speaks Out About Time in Orlando and Reasons For Wanting to Leave
(Orlando). these comments are reflecting on a comment he made December 1st about winning & the reporter asked about his legacy (after leaving orlando) : "You only get one shot. People might not ever understand that, but at the end of the day it’s not their life. You can’t let anybody else dictate how they want your life to be,’’ he said. ``I only have one shot to play and do something that I love. Not everybody is blessed and have an opportunity to do what they love." ... and .. "So I want to do it the best that I can and I’m going to take everything in I can to get what I can out of the NBA. Which, for me, is winning a championship,’’ he added. ``So if I have to play on another team or do whatever I have to do to get one, that’s my goal. This is my passion, so I’ll continue to fight." .. when he says "play for another team" its in regards to another team other than the Magic.
but props to Denton for not asking thorough questions so he can fill in the gaps & twist words as if Dwight is talking in regards to the Lakers.
dont put to much stock into this one guys

I read the link, and as soon as I saw the word Magic on it, I assumed it was old. My bad.

This is a non-starter for me right now. I am trying my best not to fall victim to the emotional rollar coaster that is the Lakers right now. Dwight may be the most up and down, emotional guy in the L. Come back to him in a few days, after a couple of wins and he will be talking dynasty & extension.
Like all Laker fans, I am pissed at the way they are playing and I cannot blame D12 for being frustrated, but let's at least get to the all star break.

idk, im not really worried about dwight leaving. and worst case scenario and he does leave, next year is the last year with everyone's contracts on the books, so we will have basically a **** ton of cap space the following year to attract any potential free agents.

^Yeah, worst case we play out a season with Kobe/Pau/Jamison/Artest/Nash and go into 2014 with a fresh slate. That's still a luxury compared to most other teams.

So other than Lebron in 2014, who are the other available free agents? I don't see us getting Lebron under any circumstances.

I just try not be overly optimistic. And it is not my opinion that Dwight will leave. I dare him to walk away from LA and all the cash. It's not happening. However, mentally, he's not a team leader. He doesn't need to be right now because we have Kobe, but for the future, we're going to need somebody else to lead the team. Dwight's not the guy.

absolutely ridiculous. how is dwight not the guy to lead a team? when has he ever proven he cant be the best player/leader on a team? he might have made some questionable PR decisions but that has NOTHING to do with the type of player he is on the court and on a team, that is about his image to the public.

He just said the other day that on a scale of 1 to 10 he's at a 12 for how much he's enjoyed his time in LA.

Did anybody by any chance watch the video?
Much more different than from reading the highlights.
He was talking about leaving Orlando
When he said "if I have to play on another team to achieve my goal" he was referring to playing for the Lakers.
Dwight is explaining to the Magic nation his desire to achieve his goal by playing for another team.
That other team being his current situation on the Lakers regardless of the current record.
Keep in mind this interview happened before the loss to the Magic last night,
Denton is reporting for the Magic Nation.
The damn title is
"Dwight Speaks Out About Time in Orlando and Reasons For Wanting to Leave". LoL
And with that said Not a surprise Denton would add this for hits to his Orlando readers :
" Howard even hinted that if he didn’t think he could win in L.A., he would move on from Southern California in the summer."
Hence the word "Hinted".
