Hawks Remain Uninterested In Pau Gasol
December 17 at 9:41am CST By Chuck Myron

Multiple reports over the last month or so have indicated that the Hawks aren't interested in trading for Pau Gasol, and HoopsWorld's Steve Kyler notes that it continues to be the case, as Hawks officials find the idea they would think about such a trade "laughable." Ben Bolch of the Los Angeles Times wrote this weekend that the Hawks had asked the Lakers over the summer about their interest in trading Gasol for Josh Smith, adding that the Lakers rejected the idea. Bolch speculated that the Lakers might be warming to the idea of acquiring Smith, but Kyler says the Hawks have never wanted to trade for Gasol.

Such a deal would run counter to GM Danny Ferry's course of clearing cap space, and Kyler hears the Hawks also haven't had talked to the Lakers about Smith. The Hawks have been in steady communication with Smith and believe he's content in Atlanta, and know that they have the "inside track" to re-sign him when he hits free agency next summer, according to Kyler. The Hawks view Smith and Horford as the pillars of the franchise, and plan to use their newfound flexibility to build around them, as Kyler writes.

The HoopsWorld scribe also notes that the Lakers continue to look for upgrades to the end of their bench, and are shopping Devin Ebanks, though there has been little call for his services around the league. Because Ebanks accepted his qualifying offer this summer, he can veto any trade.

You wouldn't be able to get much out of an Ebanks trade but I'm glad they're supposedly trying to improve their bench... they most definitely need a better SF off the bench, an athletic SF with a decent 3 pt shot would be great.

lets trade for devin harris. he's a quick/athletic combo guard who plays good D. he's having an off season so maybe we can have him for cheap.

He's been having an offseason for 2 seasons now and he's injury prone to add to that.

That's along the right lines as far as I'm concerned. But then again I don't make the decisions. You really should keep Gasol and keep that "tall lineup" and "post advantage" the Lakers have. That is a no brainer to me.

The trade piece the Lakers have is Hill. With Artest now showing his best position on the team is PF you have more pf's then you need in Gasol, Hill, Artest, and Jamison. And there are not a lot of center minutes to be had backing up Howard...but Gasol should get all of those.

So both Jamison and Hill are the odd man out. I think you keep only one of them. And Hill works as a trade piece. Not until January though.

The type of player the Lakers need now is a defensive wing that can shoot and space the floor.

Some possible players:

Dorrel Wright
Kyle Korver
Carlos Delfino
Gerald Henderson
Raja Bell

Not a lot of choices...

I'd rather trade Jamison than Hill. Jamison just doesn't fit our team IMO. Not a good defender, not a good rebounder, and not a great spot up shooter.

Open to moving either/both for the right deal, at this point the Front Office is going to have to get creative to deepen this team up.

Should be a frenzy of speculation up through the deadline.

He turned down Charlotte's offer to play for us. That won't give a good impression for the FAs that we'll try to sign in the future.

Any chance something like this is possible:

LA Out:
Gasol
ebanks
Blake

LA In:
Love
Kirilenko

Mini Out:
Love
Kirilenko
Pekovic

Mini In:
Gasol
Milsap
Ebanks

Utah Out:
Milsap

Utah In:
Pekovic
Blake

Why for LA:
Love is what Dantoni wants--- big man who shoots the 3... and he's from UCLA and would love to play for LA. Kirilenko is icing on the cake as he gives us much more depth and the ability to play a few positions.

Why for Mini:
Love is showing signs of bolting... So why not replace him with 2 great bigs in Milsap and Gasol coupled with Rubio who is friends with Gasol it should be a great fit. Ebanks isn't much but he will help fill the void they lost in Kirilenko.

Why for Utah:
Apparently Milsap or Jefferson are on their way out at the end of the year. They can't really keep both but now with Pekovic they can perhaps have a nice twin tower lineup and beast their way in the post like Memphis does. Blake is just an added bonus to help their depth.

Variations can change some. It works salary wise. Perhaps throwing in Jordan hill might be something we would need to do as well to make this work. What do you think? Too crazy?

Also we don't just do what's best for us in trades... Hill is tradeable, why would teams want Jamison

really? I guess that is based on the assumption that the Lakers won't just cut him... i am pretty sure if they cut him he loses his bird rights anyway...

I could see him vetoing a trade... lakers cut him... bam... out of the league

hmmm, that equates to nothing.

. Bolch speculated that the Lakers might be warming to the idea . . .
hmmm, another nothing.

oh well that only means one thing, TRADE GASOL!!

even though this does seem very lobsided.. we would be taking on more salary in the long term. Insert K-love into the line-up and this team would not only compete over the next decade but there is a very high chance kobe resigns for a few yrs after the current contract is up.

now end of the day i dont think that Mitch could pull this off even with his skills..

Sit Howard for two games and watch Gasol put up 20/10 or more likely 25/10 if Nash is there. Then the trade offers will actually be good ones.
