Kobe averaging more ppg/higher FG % than Jordan at 34

It's an interesting stat even though there are a lot more games to be played.

Kobe Bryant at age 34 so far this season: 30.2PPG on 47.8% shooting, 5.3RBG, 4.9APG
Michael Jordan at age 34 1997-1998 : 28.7PPG on 46.5% shooting, 5.8RBG, 3.5APG

I think both sets of numbers are impressive, but what does this mean? Does this mean Kobe's numbers are going to go down as the season progresses? His PPG is going up but his FG % has taken a toll, especially after that 41 shot game.

Doesn't matter I suppose when you have a losing record, but it'll be interesting to see how these numbers hold up. I think with Nash, Kobe is going to be getting 40 point games relatively easy...but can he keep up the efficiency as the season goes along?

He can do it if he took smarter shots, but for his entire career, IMO his best arsenal is not his shooting or else, but his mentality is not afraid to shooting, so i dont expect he can hold up the high fg%, but its sweeter if he can maintain it.

They will probably go down as the season progresses. His offensive numbers this month are pretty ridiculous in themselves, very reminiscent of the 06 season. Unfortunately it's not translating to wins right now.

The most insane part about Kobe's "age 34" accomplishments, which nobody seems to be talking about, is the fact he's got an extra 3-4 seasons of wear & tear on his body than the guys he's often compared to. It's incredible, he continues to defy all logic.

And Nash, that guy, WOW. Suns fans would always argue you could never appreciate Nash completely until he played for your team. Oh how right they were.

This is super impressive. It shows you what an insane amount of dedication and hard work can do. Kobe deserves more recognition for his drive to be great.

You compared MJ's eFG with Kobe's TS. MJ was at 53.3% that year.

A lot of people forget that after being Godly efficient his entire career, MJ's efficiency did take a hit after his first retirement.

Kobe's shooting is incredible to see this year but he's already been going downhill.
First 7 games - 53.8% from the field
8-14 - 48.5%
15-21 - 44%
22-29 - 47%

That's from just looking at the numbers though.. BUT check this, his numbers with/without Nash.
Without Nash - 46%FG, 36% from 3
With Nash - 57%FG, 50% from 3

Small sample size with Nash but leaves hope for him being super efficient. The Warriors game was painful but Kobe played like a genius on offense the last 2 games.

Kobe's always been a better distance shooter. Jordan was more athletic and better in the post. As they get older, it's not surprising to see that being able to fire away from long range wears better.

I just hope Nash only ups Kobe's easy jumpshots. The last thing this team needs is Kobe posting up a ton and getting worn down by being pounded on. Let Dwight and Gasol do that.

Jordan @ 34 won a title too, so I hope that happens for Kobe too so this stellar season won't go to waste.
