A Stupid Question Worth Asking: What would Dwight get us?

Post#1 » by myersia » Thu Dec 27, 2012 3:04 pm

I am in no way stating that we need to trade Dwight. After reading his comments from last night he appeared extremely frustrated as were the rest of the lakers. But considering we don't know if he is going to bolt or not, I think it is fair just to ask the question. If we for some reason (highly unlikely and not needed), decided to entertain offers for D12 at the trade deadline or around the NBA draft, what do you think we could get?

Please do not use this thread to state how we are overrating blah blah blah. It is just a question that I am sure a lot of people have pondered.

here is the link from dwights comments (not really anything here but you can feel his frustration"

We'd be lucky to get Bargnani for him

i'm pretty sure no one has pondered this other than you. but in any event, both pau and d'antoni will go before howard goes. especially if he's supposed to be leaving via trade.

who cares. let us not act like dwight is actually playing well and we're still losing. if he leaves then so be it, but it won't be without him shouldering much of the blame and facing the biggest backlash that he'll ever face in his entire career no matter where he goes or what he does, by not being able to at least look like a respectable team on the floor with names like kobe, nash, and gasol sharing the same floor with you. then on top of that his brand will probably suffer tenfold what it did even after it did his last year in orlando, and to put the cherry on top he'll be losing $18-20 million off the value of his next contract which at his current age of 27 will surely be his last big payday.

with all that in mind i don't see him leaving, never did. the damage he does to himself is far greater than the damage done to the lakers. he leaves then we'll just be facing a similar situation then if we had never traded bynum, only difference is we don't have bynum sitting on the bench injured and sucking up all the cap space.

We could get a ton for him because everyone knows he will return to form. But it is way too early to think of that.

ATTENTION LAKERS FANS:

I see a lot of people proposing Dwight for Love, but you have to look at it from both sides why would Minnesota trade for Dwight when they know he will leave them in FA?

Dwight is not staying in Minnesota to play with Rubio, which is why Minny would never make this deal.

Love won't stay long term in Minny either but at least he's committed there for two more years after this one. Fact is there's little you can get for Dwight since there's only two places he'd sign an extension at.

Love and Pek would be amazing, and yes it's true they are not interested at all in a 1 year rental.

Brooklyn doesn't really have anything I think we really want unless we're just talking massive depth. Lopez would hurt Pau and be a big downgrade on D and the boards, so it looks like if we really don't want him and or he doesn't want us we're talking cap space.... which we won't really even have if he simply walks, so make it expirings... soooo pretty much ouch if this doesn't turn around and start working

If the Clippers cool off in time, Bledsoe, Jordan, Odom for Dwight, Blake, Clark. We really don't need any offense out of our center, so the downgrade from Howard to Jordan won't be as bad for most teams, and will free up more post opportunities for Gasol, and I think Bledsoe would be incredible as a 30 mpg energy guard off the bench for us. He would allow us to use Meeks as a floor spreader with the starters, while Bledsoe gets 30 mpg off the bench at both guard spots. Once given the minutes I think Bledsoe can easily be a top 10 PG in this league when considering overall game (his offensive stats may not show it, but he is a top level defender which will move him up higher than stats would show).

This is not a stupid question.

I would not mind trading howard for james harden, chandler parsons, omer asik and patterson.

We need athletic young players at this point.
