Said what any GM would have said.
Doesn't want to sound desperate, which would lower the trade values of our players even more.
Pretty generic stuff.

He also said he is 95 % confident D12 will stay a Laker.

No really special... He said everything you would expect him to say.

At the end of this season Jim Buss is leaving the Lakers to become the new Captain of the MS Costa Concordia.

So Jim buss said he believes in the coach and the team? Looks like major trades and coaching changes are about to happen

Baby Jimmy is a moron, he better hope like hell that the Lakers actually do have a shot at re-signing Howard, because I truly see it as being 50-50. This team has developed zero chemistry and given no reason for Howard to want to be a Laker, outside of the standard facts that it is a storied organization in the best city in America.
The less this clown says right now the better, classic story of when a kid goes to run his Father's business and just pisses all over himself. Clearly if he wants to stick to this coach and this system, different pieces are needed.

I agree... He should have totally said the team sucks and the coach sucks and that we're looking to blow it up...
That way the trade offers would be much more favorable.
But he's even too stupid to put his business out there so that the whole league as well as our own players know what's up.

Love how people call Jim names, yet don't really know a single thing about him outside of reports dedicated to just getting a story that will draw attention.

Standard GM reply. I have no doubt they are worried right now. Despite what people think of Jim, I don't think he is that dumb, especially the people around him.

He actually is becoming more and more savvy answering these questions. Although for alot of the questions there simply are no easy answers to give and for the stuff he knows his answer was clearly not what we wanted to hear he was able to di-flect blame and pivot the question.
Perhaps he should hire some basketball consultants along with the public relations consultants he now has on staff.

most interesting thing jim said was he's not interested in moving anyone right now. which i think is them wanting to give it one last go before finally trading pau away.

This to me means a trade is imminent... I think they were done with Pau last season, I think the way this season has gone just confirms their feelings...
If a trade can be made for Pau that helps the team it will be made.
I think they might be waiting for Feb though.

He is right about his main message. Injuries have been a deterrent this year, if not the main reason we are here. Personally, I don't want to see them blow anything up. There is not point, We can't tank to get a pick. We are not built that way.
If we make it to he playoffs at this stage, we will have to have turned the corner and playing good ball. Even at an 8 seed.
I really didn't get his statement where he said .. I don't hold the players accountable and then mentioned they need to give more effort... huh?
Anyway, what I love about the Laker Org. more than anything is there no panic approach. It's tough for fans, but essential IMO.
Ultimately, I think everyone give Jim Buss way too much credit ( good/bad) Dr Buss and Mitch are all part of this process. Jimmy is not making moves without the blessings of his Dad. I am sorry, that is just not happening.
I feel people want to blame Jim to deflect blame on Dr Buss. Dr Buss is still the boss and we must trust the Buss and ride it out.

if we've learnt anything about the lakers FO
it's that they don't make landscape altering moves without proper thought and preparation.
i'm fairly sure they've been preparing to trade pau since the end of the playoffs last year. they should've already drawn up a list of names that would:
- "right the ship"
- appease the fans (for trading away a fan fav, at least until recently anyway)
- gets as much value for pau as possible
when pau's traded, everyone will know that the FO, doc, jimmy and mitch will have done their homework, there's too much riding on it not to

I realize that he is not going to do an interview and sell the team out, thus crushing any potential value in trades. Normally I try and keep my thoughts objective and void of emotion, but I spilled over when I heard those comments this morning.
I love the Lakers like everyone on this board, but right now I feel like I am getting served Sh*t on fine china and told that it is filet. D'Antoni has been a little to "aw schucks" in his postgame remarks after these loses which also has not helped. Injuries have taken their toll and I understand that affect on chemistry, wins/losses etc. But it hurts right now and I just as soon not hear anything from the guy.
The Howard comments are irking in the sense that I do not want to get my hopes up, only to watch him leave. Again I realize that Jimmy is not going to go out and convey doubt as to their ability to re-sign Howard. I would have been fine with hearing the comments go something along the lines of "we are working diligently to find solutions to the issues we have been having in our past number of games, as far as Dwight is concerned, we will make every good faith effort to attempt to re-sign him to a long term deal here as a Los Angeles Laker."
I am not asking for, nor am I feeling a sense of panic, but the wind is out of my Lakers sails for the moment.
