Building the team around Dwight? after he resigns of course - And that's if he does.

A lot of you are already wanting to trade Dwight because he hasn’t lived up to our expectations? Honestly how ever I don’t believe the Lakers Management will consider trading him unless he demands a trade.

I feel the Lakers acquired him for a reason and that was to be the next franchise player for the Lakers.

So in order for this thread to get underway I’d love to get your ideas on how you’d build around Dwight – Realistically of course.

Building around Dwight for me would mean he’d have to be the #1 option

Players I’d like to keep would be … A long with Howard of course.

1) Jordan Hill
2) Earl Clark
3) World Peace – only if he reduces his salary, not that he doesn’t deserve it, it would great to reduce his salary to allow other players to come in

These 3 players are hard workers and seem to bring great energy to the floor – ok maybe not Clark but he’s proven us his been working hard.

Players I’d like to bring in…

1) Rajon Rondo – FA or Trade
2) Kevin Love <<<free agent OR Ryan Anderson <<<trade = Would love a 3point shooting PF
3) JJ Barea I love this guy and he comes in cheep at $4.5 mill? He’d be a great back up for Nash and Rondo
4) Tyreke Evens
5) Micheal Redd
6) D.Williams – through trade from Wolves


Most of those players contracts, expire around 2014 I think? “Or at the very least very tradeable with the right trade offers”

I really don’t want anyone from the Heat like Bron/Bosh as I have way too many friends who go for them and have to much fun giving them **** lol

I also don’t know if these players would mesh well with Howards game which is why I posted to see what not only you guys thought but to see what you guys would do as well

Dwight with Kyrie Irving or Paul George would be nice.

I would start today by trading Ron Artest in place of some younger role players like JJ Barea and Budinger or Michael Beasley and Shannon Brown. Players who can become key role players and players who can become key trading chips come draft day. I would keep Gasol and Kobe until their career ends or until a great deal for a star player reveal itself like Josh Smith and Rudy Gay.

And building around Dwight means Nash should not be part of our long term plans. Not as our starting PG. This team needs to go younger, regardless if Dwight is on board or not.

We need a young athletic point guard to push the tempo, create opportunities and bring some sort of excitement back into this franchise. This corpse of a roster is dying for youth.

Are you expecting Earl Clark to sign a 1 year deal? Same with Jordan Hill? Otherwise both are gone after the season, since FO doesn't want to add any long term salaries.

Kevin Love isn't a FA until 2015. Josh Smith is a FA in 2013...so theres that.

In addition, if the Lakers go out and sign two big names in 2014, it would require giving up the rights to Kobe, MWP, Gasol, etc. Meaning, unless you expect Kobe to sign for around $1-$5 million dollars and MWP to sign to sign for $1-3 (giving the Lakers a huge home-town discount)...it will be impossible to retain them.

1)We need to sign Dwight.
2)We need to trade Gasol and Nash over remainder of this and next season for picks and youth. (It would be great if we culd get guy like Evans, G. Henderson or Lowry for them)
3)Hire young, ambitious, defensive-minded coach.
4)ReSign Hill, Clark, Meeks and Morris on short deals (that you can trade before every offseason)
5)Build great defensive system around Dwight
6)Hang around 8th place in conference, let draft picks grow into nice bench. And sign: Melo or Wall (2014), Irving (2015), Durant (2016). Under no circumstances waste max on Love or Rondo.

You need shooters and ballhandlers around Dwight. Honestly, if the Dwight from two years ago shows up, he could take a Euro-like team to 4th-6th in the WC. After cleaning house:

SG - Batum

IMO that's a good start, and would be enough to attract another star to team up with Dwight.

Dwight will not return to LA and it won't be due to D'antoni. Howard does not like Kobe Bryant and that's the bottom line. If any of you ever played basketball you would know that it's not easy for lesser talented players to play with a great player who has a piss poor attitude, great players need to make others better and Kobe doesn't do that.
It's no way in hell a player like Kobe can't find a way to get his team more wins, D'antoni is a overrated coach, but at the end of the day, basketball isn't football or like anyother sport, you can communicate all through the game and improvise plays and adjust plays during the game, and this takes communication on the court by the leaders and playmakers, and in this category Kobe is a terrible, terrible leader. Back in the days, Magic would direct traffic on the fly, talk with guys, give high fives and hype hi teamates up, Kobe doesn't do anything like this, he doesn't huddle his team, give moral support, he doesn't positively motivate the guys or any of this, and most people overlook this and give Kobe a pass why...cause he won 5 championships ???? 3 of which was whenhe had the greatest big man in his era!
Kobe is the biggest reason this team is struggling, he wants to take the most shots, he wants to defend the best player so you all can say "Kobe is doing everything", well it's a team game, he doesn't need to do everything. This is why Dwight won't return to LA, Kobe wont be let go for Dwight and no matter what anybody says, even if Dwight says it himself, D'antoni isn't the reason Dwight won't return, he does not like the pressure of playing with Kobe. Dwight isn't happy in LA he isn't comfortable, he isn't himself and it's because of Kobe. Kobe has had beef with Shaq, Phil had problems with him, Bynum said Kobe stunted his development, Smush Parker hated him, and now Howard has issues with him and they havent played half of the season yet, when are you guys gonna see Kobe is a piss poor team player?

every time someone talks about the future of the lakers you have to pop in with your definitive toned two cents. and it never fails. no matter what the topic, no matter what the time zone, if someone is talking about the future of the lakers there you are. why don't you worry more about keeping your team in the league instead of what the lakers are going to do in the offseason.

and fyi, jordan hill is on the books until the 2014-15 season so no he won't be gone after this season.

How many alpha players do this? Or ever? You have to be a GREAT distributor for this to even work. It's not the same for scorers. If Melo or Durant scored 10 straight points, they're not gonna be bigging up their teammates telling them they're the sh*t. Also, you can't put two different personalities on one person, unless they're bi-polar. Kobe's maniacal, borderline sociopathic behaviour has probably cost him a couple of titles, but he also couldn't have won 5 w/o it. It's a double-edged sword. If Kobe was happy-go-lucky, he wouldn't have problems with guys like Smush, so he'd STILL be playing with guys like Smush, instead of getting much more skilled guys like Pau.

Gotta try to get kyrie irving. Him paired with Dwight will keep the lakers in it. As far as championship aspirations a lot of guys would need to go: nash, meeks, kobe, artest, jamison, etc. would need to go.

Dwight, kyrie, clark, and a better bench. Keeping kobe around at this point hinders a team more than it helps. Just the way it is, it is a young mans game and kobe had a heck of a run. He can still be effective for a few more years but will recieve a lot of criticism in the process as other aspects of his game deteriorates.

What he is doing this season is amazing. I hope he goes on another tear.
