Rival Execs Speculate About Rudy Gay Ending Up With Lakers

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/22 ... ith_LakersThe Boston Celtics have held exploratory trade talks with the Memphis Grizzlies on Rudy Gay.
More than one team has speculated that a three-way trade that would send Pau Gasol to the Celtics, Paul Pierce to the Grizzlies and Rudy Gay to the Lakers makes "some sense".
Pierce's $15.3 million salary for next season is guaranteed for only $5 million, which would make his contract tradable.
how do you people feel about this? keep in mind, gay has a player option in 2014 for $19.3 million which i'm sure he'll keep, so in 2014 we'd have somewhere around $48,518,326 on the books for three players (nash, dwight, gay; unless nash retires before 2014 or gets amnestied then you'd subtract 9.7 mil from that total) and that would only leave us 10 mil to operate with which would effectively eliminate la from any 2014 plan.

i don't really mind the part that eliminates the 2014 plan cause i don't see any realistic good enough targets. 2015 is better.

ok then, 2015 is gone as well unless la somehow strings a trade for love or anyone else in that class using earl clark.

i actually like rudy gay.
his athleticism is something we hadn't had since trevor ariza, and gay has lebron level athleticism, not as skillful though
this does kill the 2014 plan though, not like we reasonably expect to get lebron

Don't really like Gay as our 2nd option going forward. Don't think Dwight/Gay=Rings.

If we could get Rudy Gay for Pau Gasol we should do it, Gay would bring a athletic wing on this team and another shot creator to take pressure off Kobe.
Dwight/Gay is not a bad duo for the future.
*But why would Boston help us?

obviously he wouldn't be re-signed if there's a better use of capspace, c'mon sonics fan.

I don't know if I would trade for Gay right now. Gasol has been playing much better since coming off the bench and is our only back up C since Hill is injured. If we were to trade Gasol for Gay and Howard does something to his shoulder the only C we would have left is Sacre. Maybe we could get a backup C in the deal but I don't see either team with one to trade now that Memphis traded away Speights. Also Howard could potentially leave this offseason and we would be left without a starting C for next season. This would be a very risky move but I do like Rudy Gay as he is a good all around player and would be great alongside Kobe, Nash, and Howard.

This would be great we need somebody to go against the LeBrons and Durants of the world

i wouldn't want to trade gasol for gay either, for the reasons u pointed out and cause i don't think gay is all that good anyway. i also really like the way pau has been playing since being sent to the bench and i expect it to continue.
i wouldn't be upset if it happened though, just not something i would do myself.

because they're struggling too. i can't think of another trade that they could realistically make that could help them more than acquiring pau.

Well I agree with 2015, the whole 2014 thing was only fostered up by the media because of Lebron drama. Which anybody with a brain should've never believe. Pat Riley wasn't going to lose Lebron, he would sacrifice Bosh and Wade's soul's to the devil to make sure of it.
That's why I wasn't gushing over that plan, besides after Lebron it wasn't much in talent to depend on.
In the end I don't know how they'll make space for 2015 or whatever, long term I think they do something with Nash.
As far as this rumor, Gay is nice but his game to me is missing elements. But this is about slowly putting pieces in around Dwight (if he stay's) so I get the move.

Assuming Howard regains form(which I'm willing to give him a full year removed from back surgery before I make judgement) I'm willing to throw out 2014/2015 plans. At worst you would have a top 3 player in D12 and a second tier star in Gay.

If the Grizzlies don't trade Gay this year maybe try and do this trade in the offseason. Although I would only do the trade if Howard resigns and Gasol doesn't play well to finish the season. But lately Gasol has been more aggressive off the bench and looked more like he did when we won back to back titles. Coming off the bench he is playing center more and getting more touches in the low post and is playing less minutes which makes him play harder when he is out on the floor.

Second worst scenario is we can add one more guy with the scraps destro said we'd have left over. Maybe we can shed a little more space and make it like 12-13 mil.....that can snag a decent #3 role player.

This... And I like to add we still would have options to grab Kevin Love or even if that fails Klay Thompson in the future. I just think this is the young athletic wing player we're dying for right now. Gay can defend and isnt scared to go back at Durant and Lebron on the other end also. A current trio of Kobe, Dwight, and Gay could be beasty

Also, whatever nets Sacre any kind of minutes frightens me
