Kobe brings up a great point about needing fewer possessions. More offensive possessions also equates to more defensive possessions. For an older team that's just not a good thing.

Originally I liked the idea of more possessions with the talent we had, more shots and opportunities for everyone, but we are just too old and slow for that. Definitely better for us to keep the possessions and pace down and maximize each one. With the precision and talent we have on both ends we should keep ourselves in every game at least.

Here's sort of a summary (I tuned out towards the end):

Kobe spoke with D'Antoni about minimizing possessions to help out the defense. MDA was open to it, hence the change.

Wants to control the pace by playing more in the post. Said that it puts Nash in a better position to succeed since he's had a hard time breaking traps, particularly against the Heat.

Says the hardest part of the season has been remaining patient.

Says that his early conflicts with Shaq taught him to be more patient with younger players.

Wants Howard (and others) to challenge each other more. Get in players faces, etc.

Responding to Kobe sharing the ball narrative: Says it's what's needed most right now. Teammates are playing with more energy because they see Kobe sacrificing his game.

Says he was hiding on Westbrook last night to conserve energy... lol.

Gave Tony Allen and Shane Battier props for their defense... said they played him great because they are smart defenders.

Said Gasol is not happy about coming off the bench but he's still coming out and doing his job. Says that guys will need to sacrifice and accept their roles. Said Pau is coming off the bench because he's a center.

Gave Earl Clark high praise. Says he works really hard (comes in early, stays late, always practicing).

Says that they come together emotionally and now just need to get on the same page on the court (chemistry).

Asked who was the best player in the league and wouldn't answer the question. Said that players should be analyzed when their careers are over.

Not really talking about Howard about staying with the Lakers... wants him to focus on the moment and go game-to-game.

Was asked about becoming the all-time scoring leader and said he was more concerned with winning championships.

It was definitely one of Kobe's better interviews. He seemed comfortable rather than guarded or contrived for a change.

One of my biggest complaints about Kobe throughout his career, and I'm a HUGE Kobe fan, is that he's always seemed guarded when being interviewed. The odd/rare times he's giving candid answers are very welcome.
