Raptors Intent on Pursuing Gasol

Raptors president Bryan Colangelo, in the wake of the Gay trade, is now openly acknowledging that he's shopping former No. 1 overall pick Andrea Bargnani. The Lakers' interest in Bargnani remains a matter of debate in the midst of the Italian's worst-ever season by far, but the not-for-public-consumption message that continues to emanate from Canada is that Toronto remains intent on pursuing Gasol even after trading for Gay.

At a news conference Friday, Colangelo acknowledged that the Raptors are prepared to stray into luxury-tax territory in the "right transaction." One source close to the situation says Gasol is a guy who fits those parameters, depending on the rest of potential trade principals besides Bargnani./

So we'll see, over the next 20 days, if the Lakers change their stance on Gasol's availability ... and if Toronto can even assemble a package to tempt them without Jose Calderon's expiring contract to attach to Bargnani.

no thanks jeff.

Bryan Colangelo's lost it.

Doesn't his contract end soon?

Can't blame him for wanting to get them back in the playoffs with that in mind. But by doing so he's essentially killing they're 2014 draft prospects and has them destined into mediocrity for foreseeable future.

Anyway, there isn't a deal to made here. They have nothing of value to offer.

I think the Raptors need to think more long term. Gasol is not a solution that's going to be there for many years to come.

I'd rather see if Minnesota is willing to give up draft picks and young assets than the crap Raptors have.

If we trade Gasol to the Raptors I would try and find a third team to take Bargnani. The point of trading Gasol should be to get younger and more athletic and not an injury prone player like Bargnani who doesn't rebound or play defense. Although I could see D"Antoni wanting Bargnani as he could stretch the floor with his shooting and would allow Dwight more space to operate down low. The Hawks look like they will move Josh Smith who happens to be good friends with Dwight and would increase the chances of Howard staying in LA. Even though Smith isn't a great shooter he is a better option than Bargnani as he can defend.

I'd like to see a trade like this if we were to trade Gasol:

Lakers Trade:Pau Gasol, Devin Ebanks,Darius Morris
Lakers Get:Josh Smith,Aaron Gray,1st Round Pick

Raptors Trade:Andrea Bargnani,Aaron Gray,1st Round Pick
Raptors Get:Pau Gasol,Darius Morris

Hawks Trade:Josh Smith
Hawks Trade:Andrea Bargnani,Devin Ebanks

PG-Nash/Blake
SG-Bryant/Meeks
SF-MWP/Clark
PF-Smith/Jamsion
C-Howard/Gray

Man, it's so ironic when raptors fans call us delusional. They think DD and Bargs is amazing value. Bargs is garbage and DD isn't great. If they honestly believe that Bargs will net them Pau then they have absolutely lost it.

That said, PASS!

They don't really have anything to offer with the recent trade. I would've thought about a Bargs/Lowry deal but now that they've dealt Calderon I don't think Lowry is going anywhere.

They'd have to sell pics from now till 2020 to have a chance now. No to Bargnani or any other scrub that might be included.

Unless their gonna give us Rudy Gay then we're passing. Nothing else on that roster can help us but Lowry and we not giving up Gasol for a package centered around just him smh

would have to be another team involved, but no obvious candidates. regardless, doesn't appear that TOR has enough value to send out for Pau.

When Pau has his mind right he does so much - I was guilty in the past of thinking him over-regarded but the truth is he's a brilliant, finesse post player. Yeah, he's soft as a baby bunny's arse but that's who he is. Exceptional shooter and passer with great court sense and vision - you want muscle, you need someone else. By rights Metta and Dwight should provide that. Clark, too.

Unless a ridiculous good offer is made, keep him and deal him as an expiring.
This team is so close to being really good, and a string of wins will solve a lot fo emotional troubles.

The only player I want from the Raptors is Ross. But they won't trade him for Pau. So pass.

The downside of that trade is Dwight cannot stay healthy. So we will be forced to play Bargs as our center. And with Nash, we won't fully utilize Lowry. So I'd rather keep Gasol.
