Should We Consider Marion

Post#1 » by myersia » Sat Feb 9, 2013 1:48 pm

Looks like Marion may want out. He say's he wants to stay away from a bad team. Not that we are a great team. But wonder if Marion would like to play with Kobe and Nash. If so would you guys consider MWP for Marion. Marion may not be his old self but he certainly knows how to play MDA's system and with Nash. Might be some help.

We could role with

Nash
Kobe
Marion
Clark
Howard

or

Nash
Kobe
Jamison
Marion
Howard/Clark

I would do Metta for Marion in a heartbeat. I'm not sure the salaries come close to matching though.

Why would we give up Metta for Marion... Kobe would go ape I think. Losing Fisher, Metta and eventually Pau while not getting Phil back.

Because we're in "win now" mode and Marion is a better all around player. If you remember back Marion even did a somewhat decent job guarding LeBron in the NBA finals.

Sorting by PER will NOT make one an expert as there are other metrics that also come in handy when evaluating talent but just to get an ideal Marion's PER is 15.9 to Metta's PER of 13.3. Suggesting to me Marion is the better player.

fwiw I'm not saying Marion would be the answer to all of our problems. I just happen to think he's better than Metta. And I like Metta but I like winning more.

I didn't sort by PER... I didn't look up stats. I'm just going by gut and what I see on the court. We need Metta in my opinion. That is just my opinion. He brings intangibles and toughness to the table.

Shawn would help with a lot of our problems would help with a lot fo our problems but .... hate to lose Ron-Ron. What else could we do to swing it?

Not tougher than MWP.
I'm aware of how poorly Metta has been playing as of late but I think he is still has some valuable use for this team.
The Matrix may be more athletic and longer than MWP but he doesn't have the same attitude.

I Would love to get Marion and somehow keep MWP.
Maybe we can offer Dallas another trade exception ? LoL

Saw Marion play up in Portland. He's still got it.

Not sure what it'd take to get him though.

Marion > Metta, easy.

The problem is Dallas knows this too and probably don't want to do the deal.

If you could get an expiring for MWP then send that for Marion it would work well. That said I think the best thing for L.A. would be to go for more of a true wing, a SG/SF type that can play larger SFs and shoot well. Whether or not MWP stays after this is irrelevant (aside from the financials).

Don't start getting logical now.

but yeah obviously you hit the nail square on the head. There's no reason for Dallas to want Metta when Marion is clearly the better player.

They're both backup tweener forwards at this stage. Marion's game as a SF has tanked.

Agreed but he still has better foot speed than Metta at this stage so I think he'd be a better fit for our team. Also, he's not hated as much by the refs ass Ron Ron is nor is he as likely to go koo koo at any given moment. Like one game before the damn playoffs are about to start. smh!

Surprised no ones mentioned that Marion can't shoot... Cause that fits so well with the system not to mention with our abundance of dead eye sharpshooters....

You aren't giving us any of your so-call Big 4, so I don't know how you'd make it worth the Mavs' time. Besides, the OP misconstrued his comments. He wouldn't report if traded to a bad team. Trix is perfectly happy in Dallas right now by all accounts.
