Lakers Celtics Talk Howard-Rondo Trade

Post#1 » by H00PDREAMS » Sat Feb 16, 2013 2:51 am

BREAKING NEWS...

CBSSports.com has learned that the Lakers have engaged in preliminary trade discussions with an unlikely trade partner regarding Howard: their fierce rival, the Boston Celtics. The centerpieces of the possible deal, which hasn't gained any traction, would be Howard and Rajon Rondo...

Since the league source familiar with the discussions characterized them as preliminary, it's possible that the talks could be tabled until after the season. In that case, Howard would have to agree to a sign-and-trade to the Celtics that would only yield him a four-year deal as opposed to the five years the Lakers could offer him (or the Celtics, if he were traded there by Feb. 21 and subsequently re-signed). The Celtics could only acquire Howard in a sign-and-trade if they eschewed their full mid-level and remained below the so-called luxury-tax apron, a threshold $4 million above the tax line that was added in the 2011 collective bargaining agreement.

CBS: Lakers talking with Celtics about Howard for Rondo

Post#3 » by milesfides » Sat Feb 16, 2013 2:57 am

However, CBSSports.com has learned that the Lakers have engaged in preliminary trade discussions with an unlikely trade partner regarding Howard: their fierce rival, the Boston Celtics. The centerpieces of the possible deal, which hasn't gained any traction, would be Howard and Rajon Rondo.

At first, this seems unlikely, because I can't see Howard seeing Boston as an attractive destination, even after the season, so I don't see why the Celtics would gamble on Howard. However, the Celts' recent success without Rondo (and Rondo's injury) may encourage them to take that risk. It's possible.

On the other hand, in the same article, Ken Berger quotes Dwight:

"I like their team," Howard said of the Rockets. "They're a great team. They're young, they play together, they're scrappy. … It's fun to watch them. They're one of the teams that we can tell that in a few years is going to be really good."

I think it makes more sense for us to trade with the Rockets. They've got some quality assets that can help us.

I think this has less than zero chance of happening, but I'd do that too.

Dwight must've told the Lakers he wasn't going to resign here.

And if he did, he has to be the weakest willed 'Superstar' the league has ever seen. If this happens Dwight's a pansy...

Rondo isn't healthy right now, and he won't play before the playoffs. And I'm still cool with that.

I don't think we're a playoff team with Dwight anyway. This season is done.

And Rondo seemed to hardly know he was injured, so hopefully, he'll recover quickly.

I hope the Lakers have changed their mind about it, because it's stupid to gamble the future on Dwight's fickleness.

Maybe Jerry Buss gave one last command.

Dwight must be sending messages to the Lakers FO that he is not staying.
Otherwise, there is no way the Lakers do this, specially for a player who just had ACL surgery.

I'd do Dwight and D' Antoni for Rondo, Green and Rivers :)

No, Nash wouldn't be traded, he might have to come off the bench or play more of a scorers role though.

Sorry, but no way is Rondo worth Dwight alone. KG at least makes it attractive for THIS YEAR's Lakers.

I disagree.

I can't stop drooling over the thought of Rondo running point for us and guarding opposing pgs!

From what I've seen so far, Dwight's defense has been over-rated. He certainly hasn't helped our team D.

Rondo's a good perimeter defender.

I'm not sure how he fits D'Antoni.... But I'm not sure how anyone fits D'Antoni.
