Aren't you sick of having an old team?

Post#1 » by yitur » Sat Feb 16, 2013 9:10 pm

I mean I love Lakers' management always trying to stay at top and all, but I'm tired of this. I really would like to root for young players that grow with this team, like Magic-Kobe did. I would love to watch the new Lakers Showtime without avareging 33+ starting 5 :)

I just wanted to see how other Lakers fans think about this

It's not an easy thing to find a player that you can draft and mold into a franchise player. Guys like Magic and Bryant are more of the exception than the rule.

A. There will never be another Showtime.

B. You're going to get your chance here soon enough.

We lost a lot of fans during the last major rebuild (i.e. the Sedale Threatt era). I'm assuming a lot will jump ship again if the Lakers start over.

to get good young players you need to either consistently suck or have a ton of cap space. neither of those is happening while kobe is here.

I'm not tired of old teams, I'm tired of mentally weak minded players. I'm tired of players that have no shooting ability. I'm tired of lazy players. I'm tired of defensively weak players. I'm tired of the drama.

Old team or not if they're playing with heart and effort that's all a fan can really ask for. But right now I don't see any of that.

This.
Plus, I'm tired of "shooters" who can't make shots.

Win now has been the Laker way for the last 5 plus years. But come 2014 or so. Most of the Lakers will be gone. The sad part of this is the Lakers have traded so many first round picks away, that there is no way to build a team for the future. The Clippers are doing it right. Get some young players and look what we have now. The Lakers payroll is a 100 million and another 30 million in tax. If this roster stays the same. They are looking at 100 million and 70 million in tax. The tax will be another level next year and the year after that. So D12 and Pau might not be here. Maybe it is time to trade both players for a boat load of good young players and future #1 picks. Easy to say. But the clock on Kobe's knees and body is starting to wear down.

This is a Laker town forever. But Clippers are here and they are young. OKC might never let them win a championship. Which is a good thing.

The Heat big 3 will have to go through it, when their core players get older, it's just part of the cycle if you want to build a great team. Kobe, Gasol, were young once, now they have aged. It's hard to fit in young players when your core players have aged and taken up all the cap space.

OP, I've agreed with your views for quite some time. However, the experience that comes with aged players is invaluable. Though when you see young teams like OKC running everyone out of the arena, it makes you wish you could have that too.

Luckily, LA is the best destination for any FA and can easily yield those young players once the current salaries are off the book.

And there is no proof they are doing it right this season. There is a reason they are trying to make trades now. They know they are not a championship team yet.
