DH12 admits conditioning and lack of effort cost games

"I knew that would be a process. The better shape I'm in, the more active I can be and the more I'm able to do on the floor," he said. "But it was a struggle at first because I just didn't have it in the tank, especially on defense."

Now this is a very positive sign IMO fellow Laker fans. It seems Dh12 is committed to turning this thing around. Now we all knew that he was out of game shape and was recovering from the back issue.

"There's no subs so until I get in great shape, some times I have to make sure I don't risk a dumb foul because I'm out of shape or fatigued," he said. "I usually can play 45-48 minutes without getting tired. Now after five possessions I'm winded. But all that stuff will come. Hopefully, if we continue to do what we've been doing, by the time we get to the playoffs, I'll be in pretty good shape."

I've always said even an 80% Dwight is by far the best big on the planet but anybody can question his effort and desire at times. I think him talking about it and owning up to his issues can only help develop the continued chemistry to not just Kobe and Nash but to the rest of the team. DH12 needs to dominate the paint on both ends (especially the defensive end). Both Kobe and Nash will make sure Dwight gets his touches and dunks throughout the game.

Howard said getting some extra rest over the All-Star break helped, as has a new diet he started over the break.

"I'm just making sure I don't eat as much candy and sugar so I can get in good shape," he said. "Back when I was able to play 48 minutes, I could eat anything. But now I can't."

Helps he understands he's not 24 years old anymore and is working on his diet also. But All I know these past 2 games if we can get this Dwight on a night in and night out basis. We're going to be a SCARY TEAM come playoff time. DH12 just needs to trust the offense, set solid screens, rebound and smack shots on the defensive end

"Am I a big candy person? That's an understatement," he joked. "My pantry is full of candy. Skittles just sent me 30 pounds of Skittles. I have a nightstand full of every candy you could think of. Skittles, blow pops, Laffy Taffy, Reese's Pieces, Kit Kats, all types of candy was in the drawer. They had to clear it out."

He's even worser than LO. :o

I'll never understand some of these athletes diets. You would think that with their above normal workout schedule, they would be influenced to eat right. But some of them are such piggies.

He needs to find that energy from somewhere. Hope it doesn't make him lazy like it did with Odom at times.

Well, they do burn a lot of calories though. Also with all that muscle mass, D-Ho has the luxury to eat junk once in a while.

I think this is a positive step in the right direction... I don't read any of the usual defensiveness or deflection in this statement... Maybe I'm reading to much into it, but with how he's played the last couple games, I think D12 might actually be getting it.

First step is admitting it. He seems committed so we should see Lakers in the playoffs.

agree 100%. Post All-Star break Dwight is saying and doing the right things so far, we'll see if it lasts.

This is a small step forward in the rigth direction for Dwight. And a big leap for the laker nation.
I believe something happened over the all star break between Kobe dantoni Nash and Dwight.
Kobe guaranteeing a playoff seed and now this.
I'm sure we will here from dantoni and Nash soon on something as well. Maybe Ron artest will slip up and give away some info on what happened.

Lakers will click. Or lose and go home. I sure hope we continue to click.

Please Kobe and Dwight keep it up. Keep it up. Let's demolish Dallas.
Kobe Bryant forever
GO LAKERS
8-)
I've heard it through the grapevine..NBA gods have already designated Los Angeles LAKERS as NBA Champions in near future. The destiny is real. TRUST ME.

I want La Lakers to win against Dallas and demolish them, but please don't hate on Vince Carter. He means a lot to me being from Toronto.

Vince Carter deserves the amount of hate he gets from Toronto.

Regarding the topic, you can see it in Dwight's play. His post game/footwork is getting better a bit. But his mobility on the offensive side of the ball.. setting full screens, rolling hard, jumping higher.. It's only been two games but it looks and feels great.

I really want to see Dwight continue this commitment. The article was music to my ears.

We've only lost 2 more games than the Rockets and they're going to lose at least 2 more games so we just need to go on a great run now and its good to see that Dwight is doing all he can to help that. BRING ON THE PLAYOFFS!!

Really? I can get away with being thin yet eating my fair share of unhealthy food by virtue of working on my feet all day and moving around. If I was busting my ass up and down th court every day and running windsprints and hitting the gym I'd probably have been able to be fit after a 30 lb delivery of skittles too.

If these guys ate nothing but carrots they'd probably have to eat 100 lbs of them a day.

This is how he works, says "I have to do something to help my team", then....don't be surprised down the road when it's just another shallow excuse.

The question is; why isn't he in shape? and if not, how many dozens of more games will it take to get in shape?
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability

I don't think that's really the question at all because anybody that follows the NBA even just a little would know why he's struggled to get in shape this season.
Sometimes being wrong is awesome!!! :D
