Raja Bell Telling Friends He'll Sign With Lakers
February 25 at 6:15pm CST By Zach Links

Veteran Raja Bell, who is nearing a buyout agreement with the Jazz, has been telling players and friends around the league that he'll join the Lakers, tweets Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld. Bell won't sign off on a buyout arrangement with Utah until he has his next job lined up.

Bell is in the final year of his deal in which he is earning $3.48MM and the two sides have been going back and forth on a buyout all season. The Lakers are among the teams with interest in the 36-year-old and an available roster spot to add him to the mix.

Bell has to be cut loose prior to Friday's buyout deadline if he hopes to appear in the postseason for another team this season. Free agents who haven't been on an NBA roster at any point this season could still sign after that date and be playoff-eligible, but anyone currently on a roster must be released by March 1st to retain postseason eligibility.

If he's not totally washed up, he could be a useful 3 and D player. We desperately need a competent player to fill that role considering MWP doesn't really posses the "3" or the "D" anymore.

If he still got a bit of his legs and can still shoot the three.. he'll be useful.

We got a geriatric club in the lakeshow right now.

he's an old 2 and strictly a 2 with his height 6'4. He's old and slow and would not be an upgrade over Meeks who's playing well for us. This is not 2005-06 when Bell was useful. If anything we could use a SF who can shoot ala Chris Douglas Roberts or Donte Greene

You guys gotta be kidding me if you don't know who Bell is. Here's the skinny on him....

Good wing defender
Can shoot the 3
Decent back up for Kobe
Knows MDA's system
Played with Nash
Plays with an edge ( will compliment Kobe's edge well )

Stop being blinded by a few buckets made, Meeks is a horrid defender and doesn't do anything that well besides the occasional 3. And he's 34....it's not old age.

It's a play on what Kobe said after being clothesline by him. He called him a nobody remember?

The thing he brings essentially is a backup 3. He can reduce Metta and Clark's minutes. The thing is he can take 5-7 minutes off both and that would be huge. Metta has lost his shot with the injuries as he has spent more and more time wrestling bears down low and Clark needs the rest too because he's playing me than his whole career and had little nagging tweaks hear and there from wear and tear. I don't think he impacts Meeks or Blake as much as he helps Clark and Metta have their minutes and miles managed

If it means less MWP at the 3, less minutes overall for MWP, I'm all for it. A gritty veteran defender who I believe is a career 40% shooter from downtown would be nice instead of watching Metta chuck off balance shots or try to create off the dribble.
