Rudy Garceduenas ex-equipment manager

For 26 years, through Showtime and Shaq's Time and Kobe's Team, Garciduenas served as the Lakers' equipment manager, one of the few reliable constants in a sea of locker-room change. Two seasons after losing his job in a purge of staff members who were close to departed coach Phil Jackson, he has traded a life of passing out uniforms to one of passing out Brah Barbeque Pork Sandwiches for $8 each

Sad and disgusting. Good for Rudy for bouncing back with a great attitude.

Wait what?

"Several months later when the lockout was on the verge of ending, Garciduenas was offered a chance to interview for his old job. When he asked for a guarantee that he would be rehired, he was refused, so he did not interview. This time he was fired by FedEx."

Sucks he got fired but it's not the end of the world. It actually seems like he's successful now.

Food Trucks are taking over the culinary world.

My cousin who is a certified chef fresh out of Le Cordon Bleu got so many amazing ideas on his food truck. Making me seriously consider investing in him.

Good For Rudy.

Pretty standard for Plashke... I wouldn't be surprised in the least if he wrote the piece with the intent of making the Lakers look bad in some way.

My guess is that when Garciduenas was laid off he asked Kupchak if his job was guaranteed once the lockout was over and he was probably told he would be allowed to interview for it if and when that time comes around. Not knowing how long the lockout was going to last he decided to start his own business. Nice that he moved onto something new but the Laker organization didn't do anything wrong in the way they handled the matter.

I agree with Plashke going to the extremes at time but I still think he's much better than Adande and Simers. LoL

I'm not sure it's even legal to guarantee someone a job before they interview.

So when you get an equipment manager job, you're supposed to get it for LIFE?

Moving on...

You guys crap on Bill Plaschke to give Jim Buss the benefit of the doubt?

How about Brian Shaw? Does he have any credibility? How about Ronnie Lester?

I've been to Rudy's house several times before with my ex-girlfriend in Westchester, he's a real cool dude, already knew about him operating the truck.

brian shaw, i can buy that the front office wanted to go with someone more distant from phil, more different.

an equipment manager being let go cause he's too close to phil? yeah, thats laughable imo. he wasn't the only personnel let go, plenty were. criticize what he want about the layoffs and how they went down, im sure i'd agree with a lot of it...but claim that it was done cause these low level non-basketball people were too close to jackson? c'mon now.

Is it out of the realm of possibility that somebody could actually be that thin-skinned and insecure? Ne'er do well, silver spoon son of beloved, self-made man desperate for respect and anxious to put his own stamp on the organization he now runs? I've heard stranger things.

Who you're talking to?

I'm talking about both Brian Shaw and Ronnie Lester who blasted Jim Buss for the way they themselves were treated, and the way he treated others.

Jim Buss was a douche bag for not only wholesale firings, many of which were driven by a personal agenda against Phil, but also the way he did it.

We saw this coming when Kurt Rambis called him out years ago, saying Jim was trying puff his chest and swing his ego around, when he had no idea what he was doing or talking about.

i have no doubt there is some validity to this story, but the main reason for all the firings, and every cost-cutting move the lakers started making two years ago, was to prepare for the estate tax when jerry died. the buss family now owes an astronomical amount of cash to the federal government. it's not easy to give away 40% of your net worth when 90% of your wealth is the lakers. in order to avoid having to sell the team to pay the bill, it takes incredible planning. the kind tax attorneys dream of. the lakers didn't even send anyone to the sloan sports analytics conference. they are the only team in the league without representation there. it's a $$$ issue. right now they're just trying to stay solvent until the estate is finalized. this stuff can't happen overnight. could take years.
