This announcement http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/22 ... GH-Testing got me to thinking. Which NBA players do you suspect of juicing?

The problem with "juicing" that people dont understand is that it doesnt mean your necessarily the one with the most muscle mass if youre taking banned substances.

theyre called Performance enhancing drugs and can benefit athletes in many ways, some of which are only noticeable in performance rather than appearance. I doubt any star in the NBA is on any PED unless it was used for injury recovery purposes

that being said, Sasha THE MACHINE Vujacic was without a doubt juicing :D

Exactly, basketball is about dexterity and agility. Muscle mass is a detriment. Players are already leery about weights to begin with, the lifting that is done is more for toning or to build a specific muscle. If PED's are being used it's only to speed up certain processes.

Its not about who you think is taking. But if one guy gets caught, then everyone is up for suspicion. Including the guys you least suspect. That's what happened in Baseball. You can't just base your suspicions on personalities.

Josh Hamilton did it this offseason. Deron Williams just recently.

Depend on what you call juicing and what products you are looking for.

What some of you guys are saying may be right regarding HGH, but not for other stuff like what some cyclicts have been convicted for.

I actually think (moderate) steroid use might be an epidemic in basketball with about 30-60%+ of the players using them from time to time. The testing is a complete joke and that pretty much encourages use since you would have to be a complete idiot to get caught. And moderate amount of the right steroids and not going overboard would help with speed, quickness, strength and jumping. And may even help players recover as well. Unlike baseball and football, I don't think there are many players taking large amounts of steroids since the prime benefit would probably be at moderate amounts since the typical player doesn't need to get too big.

Basketball has become a sport more about speed, quickness then the 1980's and that just encourages steroid use.
Before folks thing steroids always make you too big, look at Lance Armstrong. He was juicing to add strength.

To reduce steroids in sports, there probably has to be extremely rigorous testing and a 2 year ban for first use and a permanent ban for using after that.

Otherwise, the money involved is too great for players to not use.

I'd guess blood doping is much more likely than steroid usage.

Actually, Lance's legs were massive, so not a great example. In his prime, he might have literally had as much muscle mass in his legs as Dwight Howard does.

I'm pretty sure Lance was mainly using EPO (erythropoietin which is responsible for increasing RBC production) and blood doping (injecting back in your own concentrated erythropoietin) which increase your hematocrit (makes your blood thicker with more RBC's) which enhances your bloods ability to carry oxygen and thus enhances your muscles ability to function aerobically (aka it staves off the "burn" and increases conditioning).

That being said some HGH or testosterone wouldn't surprise me, but the above was where he got his real advantage.

Athletes that train in Denver or hypobaric chamber rooms essentially are doing the same thing (less oxygen at high altitudes means the body's hematocrit naturally rises to deliver more O2 to the body to make up for the less oxygen in the air), but it's natural, not as significant, and not nearly as dangerous when done by amateurs.

IIRC, synthetic EPO can be tested for and blood doping requires some preservatives that can be tested for, however as you can imagine unless you can catch them in the act or right after - the body is pretty good at clearing things from your blood.

Didn't Lance have only one testicle since his cancer treatment or was it just a myth? A little bit of HGH to even out the playing field seems perfectly justifiable to me.
