Is This Blasphemy?

Gail Goodrich via ESPN. On the Miami Heat 20 gaming winning streak:
"Sure, I'd like to keep the record," Goodrich said. "But I'm not going to root against the Heat."
Why the hell not? I hope they lose every game the rest of the season. I wasn't happy when the '96 Bulls beat their season win record.
If the Celtics were on the same streak, would Gail have said the same thing? When I read that, I was kind of annoyed. Good sportsmanship is one thing, but what's wrong with rooting against another team?

It is like wishing your boxing opponent to come down with a broken hand before the fight so you can so by default. Or something like that. I want Boston to lose but most enjoyable through the hands of the lakers. I want my enemies to be strong. Not weak. Then people make excuses.
I want Miami to beat the record too. It is just a record. But believe me if they go to the finals I wnt to be there and take on them full strength. More glory

No, that's where the sportsmanship comes in. You don't say "I wish somebody would take out LeBron's kneecaps so Miami loses". I just don't want Miami to break the record. Why would I? As far as the Celtics go, I don't care if the Lakers beat them or not. If they went 0-82, I would be perfectly content.

Nothing wrong with what he's saying but I'm with you. I want the lakers to keep every record we have, esp something as wild as 33 straight

Everybody knows the Heat are good. Why would a guy on the team with a record want another team to break his record? What if the 1972 Dolphins players said one year "Yeah, we went 14-0. It was great! If the Patriots or another team want to break our record, we won't root against them."

Come on. There's a reason why those guys break out the champagne every year the undefeateds finally fall.
I think Gail was being politically correct. He should have said "The Heat are good but I hope they lose tonight so there will be no more talk of them breaking our record".

Here's how I look at it....
I hope they extend their streak to 51 GAMES.....
and then lose their next 4 games to the Lakers.
Get it?

Gail Goodrich and Pat Riley are good friends.
They both were on that Lakers team that won 33 straight ending that season with a championship.
I get why some Laker fans despise the Heat or any other team that is winning alot not named the Lakers but lets not act like they are the Celtics.
