Funny article regarding George Hill and the Lakers fans that were out showing their own fans.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nba-ball- ... --nba.html

In summary George Hill was pretty upset about about the superior lakers fans / support that almost made that game an away game for them. I have been seeing this a lot lately. He does have a point, the pacers have a great team and they are winning, 2nd seed in the east last time I checked. They have had a good showing and have beaten the Heat two times I believe this season. They are a young and exciting team to watch. George Hill is an incredible talent that does it on both ends of the floor. They deserve a good fan base yet it is just not there for some reason.

Now I am a big George Hill fan and was a big pacer fan during Reggie Miller's prime. Reggie Miller turned the franchise around and gave Indiana something to cheer about. Since Miller's departure the team has kind of fallen off the map a bit.

I think George Hill could be that figure for Indiana if he had more swag and emotion. As for fans the Lakers next to Boston probably have the most fans in the world, and Kobe has a lot to do with that. These are Kobe's last few seasons and people want to see him before he retires. Because once he hangs the jersey, unlike MJ he is not going to comeback. Kobe really is the last remnant of a superior era in basketball. 17 years in the league so you know he has the biggest fan base of any nba player. That was evident in the all star voting. Even lbj's agents cheat votes could not beat kobe's numbers.

A lot of people attribute this to the Lakers having Kobe, the Lakers had a huge fan base nationwide before Kobe.

Hell I don't mind Laker fans outside of LA hijacking the opposing arena when the Lakers are on the road.

I don't blame him for being upset but that's reality: There are a ton of Laker fans all over the country, and they are vocal when they watch the Lakers play.
DEEP is absolutely right. This dates back to before Kobe.
I remember as a teenager going to the old Salt Palace in the 80's (we used to live in Utah), with my Laker cap and t-shirt to watch the visiting Lakers, and there would be a few dozen of us, and we were very vocal.
The Jazz fans hated that, and they would even try to start fights.

Well George Hill,

Its just that we have too much history, too much star power, too much drama, too much storyline, and too much media coverage bro. But I understand what you're saying though lol.

George isn't too bright. The Lakers only come to Indy once a year which means of course Laker fans in Indiana get one shot to see them and will pay big bucks for tickets so what do Indy season ticket holders do? Of corse they go ahead and sell them to help pay for other games!

I've been watching the Lakers ever since I was a baby with my father who was a very big Lakers fan. I am VERY VERY vocal about the Lakers to anybody and anywhere I am. When I see somebody talking the usual "stereotypical remarks" about the Lakers I just have to put them in their place and tell them that they're really ignorant. George Hill, you have to realize that Lakers are admired not only in the United States but ALL OVER THE WORLD. You don't see random people wearing Pacers jerseys overseas.

With that said, I think Hill has a legit reason to be upset at the Indiana fan base because they really never recovered after Reggie decided to hang em up. Maybe that statement will be a wake up call to the Indiana fan base.

Anyway, I'll support my team until the day I'm gone from this Earth.

ohhh come on noww...its obvious 90% of them came to see kobe and his last years. having d12 and nash also helps. away crowds often chant mvp for our god. everyone should embrace it.

before the shaq days with the van exle/sedale/cedrick...did the lakers have this kinda fan base on the road?

It is because we have Kobe. Look back at old footage from even 2000 (not that long ago). There weren't throngs of Laker fans in Utah of all places. Now they're even seen in places like Washington D.C. Completely different landscape since the advent of League Pass. In the 80s, you hardly saw any discernible evidence of Laker fans in buildings such as Boston Garden. Now there are a hundred or two yellow Kobe jerseys in Boston.

Relatively new phenomenon. If you look back only as far as the 90s, these opposing buildings would be against the Lakers for certain. No question. I have an @ Pacers gm from 1998 where there are no Laker fans in jerseys at all.

There ya go, before Jello comes in here and says I'm hating on Kobe/Lakers/him.

The average age of this site must be early 20s. 2000 and 2001 weren't eons ago.

Atlanta had to literally call timeout because the crowd was that loud for Kobe's run in the 3rd, they even started chanting for him to return in the 4th. Brooklyn also saw him get MVP chants for dunking on the nets and a standing o to end it.

Lakers were famous before him, but they became infamous after he blew up and LP became common place for people to watch every game on anything from their tv to their phone. Plus its his last year, its like a rock star tour, same way when mJ came to a town

I was a laker fan til magic retired the first time then it was all boring during the cedrick days so i stopped. enters kobe at 16-17 on the bench and ive been a kobe/laker fan again. so moral of story no kobe me no lakers fan. Even during the shaq days the road fans dont chant MVP for him, did they do this for magic/kareem? esp in boston?

People know that Kobe's playing his last years. They realize that this could be their last chance to cheer for the man. The same thing happened during MJ's last years as a Bull.. he was cheered everywhere he went, and even had some standing ovations.

I get where he's coming from. He's alpha seed and the Spurs were able to harness that within their cloth and it worked for them. Now he's on the Pacers, getting it done on both sides of the ball and yet it's Paul George's team. I don't think he minds, but these little things are adding up.

Hill is more upset with pacers fans not showing up to games despite Indiana having a winning and exciting team, than he is with people being lakers fans here - i dont think thats his issue. There are teh same amount of lakers fans on a lot of road teams games. his issue is that because no pacer fans show up the lakers fans loudness was able to take over the gym.

Well George, if your team wasn't so boring to watch, your fans might actually cheer you on louder.
