Amnesty Pau? Not so fast Trebek! (04/06)
Just curious here, what players on our roster are eligble to be amnestied?
Reason being with Iggy most likely opting out of his contract, would it be a viable option to amnesty Pau Gasol and then turn around and sign Iggy? With Earl Clark and Jordan Hill likely to be back next season, and lets just say we happen to pursuade Dwight to stay, would Iggy be a good investment at this point of his career?
Blake/Nash/Meeks
Kobe/Meeks/Iggy
Iggy/World Peace (opt out of contract, signed for less)/Clark/Twan
Clark/Twan/Hill
Dwight/Hill
I feel we would be a more balanced squad and better defensively, and capable of running a little bit more. Maybe Iggy signs with us for a contract similiar or cheaper than Pau's. I doubt anyone offers him a max.
Of course if Dwight decides to sign elsewhere, would Iggy still be a option for the Lakers to pursue with Pau remaining, or are there better options for us next year?

Even if you amnesty Pau or lose Dwight or do both, we do not open enough cap space to afford a free agent, let alone Iguodola.

to put things in perspective, if the lakers amnestied kobe and let dwight walk...iguodala would need to take a paycut if the lakers used all their capspace to sign him.

This offseason, we need to concentrate on trading Nash to.toronto for lowry. The love him and want him.
Then trade Gasol for a solid bench and cap space.

Re: Amnestry Options, and AI?
Getting a fat trade exception would be awesome.
Gasol for parsons, Thomas Robinson, delfino (expiring) and a 12 million tpe!!!
Houston have 14 mil in cap space and they would love to pair Gasol with harden and Lin.
We get 2 young studs, a more solid bench, and financial flexibility.... Imagine all that with a young lowry who can defend instead of an aging Nash that can't defend.

I don't think Houston would even do Gasol for Parsons let alone all those added bonuses.

Iggy's ETO is for $16,154,750.......using amnesty clause on Pau means nothing. Team still over cap.

Rockets would probably want to trade Lin or Asik before they would Parsons in that deal.

Re: Amnestry Options, and AI?
I would hold onto the amnesty for now.
MWP seems like a good candidate but he might opt out and sign a cheaper and more reasonable deal.
Pau will likely be moved this year and it will be interesting what they get for him (if they can slash 3-6 mill of the payroll and get 1-2 contributors, it be a solid deal).
They won't move Nash and it will be tough to find a taker for him.
This franchise has never been shy of opening its wallet and i could see them sucking it in for one year considering that Kobe/Gasol provide huge relief in 2014.

Re: Amnestry Options, and AI?
holding on to the amnesty "for now" isn't possible. this summer will be the last chance to use the amnesty since all amnesty eligible players (kobe, pau, mwp, blake) expire at the end of next season anyway.
so lakers will either use it in july during the 1 week amnesty window on one of kobe, pau, mwp, blake...or they'll never use it.

I'd think if Dwight re-signs, Pau can atleast fetch draft picks from either Houston or Atlanta. It would be very pointless to amnesty him.

Re: Amnestry Options, and AI?
i don't think its realistic to expect the rockets to use their capspace and send picks to get pau. they're better off surrounding their young core (harden, lin, parsons, asik) with a young pf like josh smith, paul milsap, or even take a flyer on bynum.
i just don't see them taking on an aging pau when their core is so young. i think the rockets lost interest in pau a long time ago.

Re: Amnestry Options, and AI?
They'd do it for a season remaining on his contract right? I don't see how Smith, Milsap, Big Al or even Bynum are still better than Pau will be next season.
They have cap space and even with trading for Pau and letting him expire, they will have cap space for 2014 when possibly Kobe, Lebron, Bosh, Wade, Melo etc become free agents.

really? All the names you listed are better than current day Pau, except no Knee Bynum.
